Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryOur attention is to make hardware based remotely controlled Smart Home. This idea can be used for any type of electrical appliances, same technology can also be used to control doors of a car using Android phone where user can manage car’s door by its phone without any keys. Our Home Automation System can control almost any electronic component without any discernment based on AC/DC current or taking high or low voltage, the DC appliances can be controlled directly whereas AC appliances can be controlled with the use of Relays. Our project can be extended to complete Home Automation System where one can control each and every device with his/her cell phone, simply by adding few electrical components and very little extension in Android app.
Computer communication systems and the Internet are playing an important role in our everyday environment. Today almost any device (workstation, television, lamp, etc.) can be connected to the Internet. Increasingly smartphones are constantly connected to the Internet over third and fourth generation networks. This network connectivity will play an important part in our project. As technology develops, the demands for new products and services to make our life more efficient also grow. The use of Wi-Fi ensures us that our Smart Home can be connected to internet in recent future where one can access the all home appliances any time anywhere around the world, where Internet connection is available.
Project ObjectivesOur objective is to make low Cost Android based remotely controlled Smart Home.
Project Implementation MethodAndroid based applications are becoming helpful for performing the routine work remotely in-order to save time and ease of the mankind. In our project “Android based Smart Home” we are performing the daily operations including opening/closing the door, truing on/off a fan using Wi-Fi based system. This may be used as system where user can control all of the home appliances using an Android application. All it need is our android app that must be installed on user’s Android smart phone. In our prototype we controlled a Door Lock, Light and a Fan, in which if the user can Lock/Unlock Smart Lock, turn light ON or OFF, and user can also turn ON and OFF a fan. To make the system secure, the user must go through authentication process before accessing the main functionality of the app, in which user must draw pattern which he/she set during configuration and after that user can got access to main contents where he/she can do all the operations stated above, simply by with a button.
Benefits of the ProjectOur main intension is make Android Based Smart Home at its minimum cost, there are other factors that must to be considered while development of Wi-Fi smart Lock. Our Smart Lock will be of very low cost that everyone can afford it, only within the range of $50-60. The proposed System is also scalable so that new devices can be integrated to it. The Software part or the part of project which is concern with user is user friendly and easy to use. The Software part of our project will be built in Android using Android Studio, the android phones are very common now a days. The main hardware part of project will be build using Arduino as main component to ensure that there will be no configuration problems during the preparation of project, as Arduino are fully compatible Android.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe main Hardware used in this project are Arduino UNO containing ATEL1473 microcontroller, ESP8266 Wi-Fi module, light led, a fan and L293d motor driver IC for Smart Lock. The Software part of project is build using Android Studio with XML as front end language and JAVA as back end language.
We hope that the build prototype as result of this project may be extended for practical purposes and may serve as means of simpler and easy life with the sense of modernism where the user can control almost all of the home appliances with his/her Android phone
