Hand gestures controled robot
Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryIn recent days, most of the industries are equipped with automated devices to increase the productivity and efficiency. Several robots have been developed based on the need of application. Gesture control can be termed as the introductory innovation in the arena of robotics, which demonstrates incessant endeavor and arduous diligence towards the new horizon of human-computer interaction. In the current decade, the mushrooming growth of gesture control is devastatingly eradicating keyboards and mouse for communication purpose with PC. That’s why the unquenchable thirst of simplicity and reliability of current society illuminates gesture control as a blazing epitome of incredible victory in the field of robotics Interaction with the Robot can be done using data glove-based gesture control. Data glove physically signifies that the person needs to wear a glove fixed with some sensors so as to understand the movement of
the hand at different orientations. The sensors sense these physical movements and converts it into analog value and sends it to the microcontroller which processes the input and executes the instructions encoded in it for giving required output. This technology can also be used to control electrically powered wheel (EPW) chair for physically disabled people. We are going to make a Glove based motion control robot. We also embed a sensor to measure the human body temperature at real time. This will help us in this deadly situation of covid-19 as avoid the patient who is the victim of corona virus. We can measure the human body temperature by using this robot and if the person is suffering from high fever it will initiate the alarm in order to warn the persons who are in surroundings.
Project ObjectivesGlove-based Hand Gesture controlled robot is the most advanced and practical solution in today’s era. Generally, Robots are controlled by voice commands and remotes but we will bring innovation in it as our robot will be control by hand gestures just by wearing a glove. Sensors are embedded on a Glove and when we wear the glove and move our hand, the robot will also move. Another important feature is that we will attach a IR temperature sensor and a proximity sensor to sense the human body temperature and if it is higher than 100F it will buzz an alarm to warn the surrounding people to be alert as it can be dangerous or it can be a patient of covid-19. In this pandemic situation of covid-19 we are advised to maintain a social distance and due to that we cannot go to a person physically to check the body temperature so that’s why we are making a robot and it will do this for us.
Project Implementation MethodWe will make a hardware-based project as well as it runs by bunch of code that is programmed in the processor of that robot.
Following tools and techniques are used in this project.
- Arduino Lilypad
- Accelerometer
- RF 433 Module
- HT12E and HT12D
- Motor driver L293DNE
- BO Motor and Wheels
- Prototyping Board
- MLX90614 IR Temperature Sensor
- APDS-9960 Proximity Sensor
- 128x32 I2C OLED Display
- Arduino Nano
- Piezo Buzzer
- TP4056 Battery Charging Module
The conventional usage of mouse and keyboards for HCI makes our life dull and pigeon-holed. There is need for gestures-based interface over speech recognition as it failed to mandate the robots because of modulation and varying frequency. Voice control robots are not as accurate as we need because the voice commands are not as much as beneficial due to varying frequencies and it can easily misguide the machine. Now we are making a Glove-based hand gesture control robot which can also measure the human body temperature and initiate the alarm in case of high fever, and the controlling person will be at a safe distance. Also, this is an immense aid for people for whom mobility is a great challenge. If we use it in electrically powered wheel chair this will be helpful for those people who are disable and cannot walk
