Project Summary

There is no particular address standard in Pakistan. Some places use landmarks for addresses while others use other places as reference. Some people don’t have specific address like street name, house no. they only write their village name as their addresses. So our goal is to make an efficient system that search addresses in every format. Our main target is to handle this variety of addresses data in such manner that we can attain better results. The main purpose is to have a door level address access.In “Geocoding For Everyone” project, the main target is to build a Application which can be implemented on the national level.  At the end of that project we be able to gather every variation of physical address data without changing their entire application. We can also search address location by using their Address Lookup API.

Project Objectives

Our objective is to map every address with geo-coordinates. Digitizing addresses(geo-coordinates) help us in many user-level and business-level areas. Public and private sector postal and courier companies can use our system for physical delivery and cost-effective routing. In rural areas with no specific addressing system, this system is to delivered mails, health benefits, and social benefits to their homes.

Project Implementation Method

This project is research-oriented. We have divided this project into the following phases: Data Gathering, Data Processing, Data Searching, Data Usage (application for this system).
In the first phase (Data gathering phase) we did different survey to gather a reasonable amount of raw data. We create an API for data gathering (Geo-coding API). The major problem we face that there is no standard format of address. Every area has a different variety of address components e.g., in urban areas we have streets, sectors, blocks, but in rural areas, we have village names, chak, post office, etc. So, our API is in a flexible manner that supports every kind of address.
In the second phase (Data Processing phase), we process data (geo-coordinates).
In this phase we will optimize gathered data for searching. We will remove duplication of data and false data.
In the third phase (Data Searching) we write an algorithm to search (Full-text search, Soundex) address coordinates efficiently from a large amount of data. As we stated earlier there is no standard format of the address in Pakistan. Some people use abbreviations such as street as “st”, the post box as "P.B.". Some write different spelling of the same place such as “Akbar Road” as “Ikbar road”.so from data searching these problems can be solved.
In the fourth phase we develop application to demonstrate this system's use in real life. Therefore, we develop a courier management system. We are not going to develop a full courier management system. Our purpose is to demonstrate the use of this service, not to build a complete management system.

Benefits of the Project

The primary motivation is to develop a system that tackles all those aforementioned problems. By implementing this infrastructure, many of the problems will be resolved. It saves times and cost which people waste by searching exact location. Our system is helpful privately as well as publicly.
Many of the businesses problems is to resolved. For example, if a business wants to deliver hundreds of items in one day. It faces difficulties because of not having knowledge of exact location. So, this Business will avail themselves from our system immensely and track exact locations easily.
Our system also facilitates every common person in many aspects like if a person faces a difficulty and need help, he just gives location to help-center and help center visualize that address by using our system and reach that location in time.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our System will handle all sorts of variations regarding an address string and output an exact location in the form of Geo-coordinates. Many businesses will use our API to search Exact Address Location to boost their business.
