Even though natural disasters are unpredictable of, mitigation measures can reduce the severity of damages. Flood plains are also regions where a significant proportion of the country’s population and much of the economic activity are concentrated. As results, in recent decades, “flood risk”, defined as the probability and other physical characteristic of floods has been increasing alarmingly in many parts of the country.IoT based Early Flood Detection & Avoidance System” is an intelligent system which keeps close watch over various natural factors to predict a flood embarrassing for caution, to minimize the damage caused by the flood. Natural disasters like a flood can be devastating leading to property damage and loss of lives. To eliminate or lessen the impacts of the flood, the system uses various natural factors to detect flood.
Project ObjectivesThe objectives of this project
- To design an efficient early flood detection system for internet of things.
- Maintaining and monitoring the data in real time for further commands based upon the situation.
- To store the water depth that useful for flood prediction in a database.
The system will function when the admin activate the system. For detecting changes in humidity and temperature the system has a DHT11 Digital Temperature Humidity Sensor. The system also consist of a HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Range Finder Distance Sensor.The Ultrasonic sensor works on the principle of SONAR and is designed to measure the distance using ultrasonic wave to determine the distance of an object from the sensor. The system will determine the current water level by using wireless sensor network, which will also provide notification of SMS via GSM modem. SMS is as an helpful alert communication tools that can distribute the information to floods victim in a particular area.
Benefits of the Project- The proposed system can be widely utilized by technical and non-technical users as well.
- The system concept can be applied to various disaster monitoring capacities.
- It could be a help to prevent or lessen the damages that flood may bring.
The flood warning system should be carried a step further in notifying the public.

- The main purpose of this system is to detect different states of temperature, humidity and water level using IOT and also monitor it so that in case of flood.
- By early avoidance, necessary arrangements would be made and damage could be lessen.
