Flexo glove for Hand rehabilitation
Project Area of Specialization Biomedical EngineeringProject SummaryLoss of ability to move the fingers, is now a major problem occurring not only in Pakistan but all over the world. Due to which, patients then become dependent on someone else. Often rehabilitation for improving hand function requires the patient to perform repetitive task practice (RTP), which involves breaking a task down into individual movements and practicing these exercises to improve hand strength, accuracy, and range of motion. These methods, however, are labor intensive and costly due to the required long hours of training with a physical therapist. A system where patients could carry out exercises on their own, would make physical therapy more accessible and therefore would be beneficial for patients. Thus, our project is a solution for independent and portable hand rehabilitation.
Project ObjectivesMain objective of the project is to devise a light in weight glove mechanism which can help performing physiotherapy exercises.
A 3D printed glove is designed which is bendable, light in weight, and uses soft material such as TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane) . The glove would be flexible and easy to carry. Flex sensors will be used to determine the degree of freedom. Using programming, the motors in the actuation unit will be controlled with a specific degree of freedom to control the movement of glove fingers. The automated movement of glove fingers will force the disabled hand inside to make customized movements. Then, our next task would be to connect our project with a Bluetooth module so that we can also operate our glove using mobile phone app.
Benefits of the Project1. Hand physiotherapy can be performed without any medical assistance
2. Patients hand movement will improve
3. Due to its portable design, physiotherapy can also be carried out at home.
4. A cost effective solution for hand rehabilitation
It includes:
3D designing
3D printing
Hardware expenses
Actuation programming
Bluetooth connectivity programming
Assembling
Final production
