Project Title

Fault detection of transmission line Using iot systems

Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject Summary

The transmission line faults, roughly 65% - 70% are asymmetric line-to-ground faults. double line-to-ground fault - two lines come into contact with the ground (and each other), also commonly due to storm damage. In transmission line faults, roughly 15% - 20% are asymmetric double line-to-ground.

Practical electricity, people use the trial and error method to detect the fault location (Line to line fault / line to ground fault) of a transmission line. They feed supply at the single end at a time by dividing that transmission line into two parts and check the fault up to that section.

Project Objectives

Research Project:

To design an efficient impedance-based and robust automatic fault detection and location system for overhead and underground power transmission lines in Ghana.

? To reduce response time needed to rectify and save expensive transformers from damage or theft which usually occures during longer power outages.

? To increase productivity of technical crews since the time needed to locate faults will be minimised.

? To ensure stability and reliability of the power supply system in the country to boost economic growth.

Project Implementation Method

Fault detection in Transmission Line Project:

A smart GSM based fault detection and location system was used to adequately and accurately indicate and locate the fault had occurred.

By using this project, we can detect the faults of three phase transmission lines one can monitor the Temperature, Voltage, Current by means of GSM modem by sending message.

Benefits of the Project

Over current flow: When fault occurs it creates a very low impedance path for the current flow.

This results in a very high current being drawn from the supply, causing tripping of relays, damaging insulation and components of the equipments.

In an electric power system, a fault or fault current is any abnormal electric current. For example, a short circuit is a fault in which current bypasses the normal load. An open-circuit fault occurs if a circuit is interrupted by some failure. ... In a "ground fault" or "earth fault", current flows into the earth.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

In this paper, a smart GSM based fault detection and location system was used to. Technical crew to rectify these faults and thus help save transformers from ... with low power consumption that will relay accurate fault information at real-time back ...

The electrical energy are changed as part of the final distribution process
