Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject SummaryHoneycomb sandwich panels are widely used in aerospace, automobile, printing and other industrial units because of unique characteristics it possesses. Honeycomb sandwich panels have advantage that it is light in weight and has high strength and stiffness. Sandwich panels plays an important role in designing sandwich structures however because of limited design variable it lacks in the demand of the sandwich construction. The computational analysis is performed according to the ASTM standards. Two types of testing analysis will be performed. 3-point bending analysis will be performed to check the ultimate flexural load of core shear properties. The second analysis would be flat wise compression test, used to measure the compressive strength and modulus of sandwich cores. Three different types of adhesive films and we compare the results accordingly. Honeycomb sandwich consists of honeycomb core made of paper like material. The honeycomb core is sandwich between adhesive films and the face plates. The honeycomb core has a specific thickness and cell size. The honeycomb core has high compressive in T direction while face sheet has high shear stress in T and W directions. The advantages that Honeycomb sandwiches possesses over other metals are weight reduction, higher strength and resist damage from harsh weather conditions.
Project ObjectivesWith the increase use of honeycomb sandwich panels in daily life uses, the scientists and experimentalists aim to make a more and more efficient material. Our main aim is:
1-to design high specific strength double layered sandwich panel
2- Computational analysis on ANSYS using ACP module.
3-Fabrication of high specific strength sandwich panels.
4-Testing of high specific strength sandwich panels.
