Energy Meter Monitoring and Billing System Using IOT
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryEnergy monitoring and theft control is the big issue of pakistan, in conventional energy meter people do meter tempering and there is no indication of theft to control station. The low efficiency equipment used in house hold is also a big loss of energy. People does not know where is the loss because the conventional energy meter does not have the ability to measure , reactive power and power factor. The meter that we are going to design have an advance functionality with parameters measurement like power factor , active power , reactive power and apparent power with current bill display on LCD. By using this system wapda can diconnect electricity remotely using IOT. This meter will shut down load power on over and voltage.
Project ObjectivesThe main objectives of project are
1) Parameters display on meter LCD
2) Meter tempering monitoring and control
3) Bill display on meter
4) Immidiate disconnectivity of power of defaulters.
5) user load protection on over and under voltage
Project Implementation MethodThe project implementation steps are as follows
Literature review
equipment selection
purchase of components
circuit designing
algorithm designing
simulation testing using proteus software
PCB designing
PCB manufacturing
final integeration of hardware and software
deployment of project for testing results
Benefits of the ProjectThe benifits of project are
1) energy saving
2) Continuously monitoring
3) No manual meter reading
4) No manual meter disconnectivity of defaulters.
5) over voltage and under voltage protection
Technical Details of Final DeliverableA microcontroller based energy meter having there is no option of meter tempering. we have used ATMEGA 328 microcontroller as the main control unit and 20x4 lcd is used to display the parameters. The IOT chip is used to send and receive data on cloud server for continous monitoring and control. The current sensor is 50A and can measure a maximum of 50A current.
