ENERGY CONSERVATION THROUGH IOT BASED SMART ENERGY METER
Energy is a very important aspect for any household, industry, agriculture and so. Managing the energy-efficient and conserving it intelligently is very much important. Energy usage is directly affected by Coal, oil, and so power generation. To this end, a lot of research has been done to build a smart energy management system. In none of the studies, researchers have worked to simplify the control of the appliance in terms of time and the power consumption limit. Most of them focus on operating appliances using android devices. So with the upcoming machine-to-machine communication, we will build IOT based Smart Energy Meter where devices such as Fan and Bulb are wirelessly operated based on time and power consumption limit information. These inputs are used to monitor the appliances intelligently. The device also manages the day-to-day power usage of appliances and provides users with an awareness of the power they are consuming over a period. These details will be updated on the cloud server.
Power taxes are a lot higher during peak hours which are between 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Power distribution companies (HESCO, SEPCO, etc.,) guide their customers to reduce their consumption during peak hours and save money on their energy bills. As we know nowadays people are so busy so Most of them do not turn off the extra appliances to save energy. And they get higher bills and it also affects the Grid station because they have to meet the peak loads. Moreover, Different companies like Google and Apple have made some of the software and hardware that only work on commands. However, these things cannot automatically turn off the non-essential appliances at peak hours and, they cannot turn off appliances when the load exceeds than desired highest value. For example, we want that our load doesn’t exceed 1kw if it exceeds then it should turn off the non-essential appliances that were selected by the consumer.
This project is about developing IOT based smart Energy Meter that monitors the energy consumption of a household and controls the consumption during peak hours by turning off the non-essential ports/lights when the electrical load crosses a specified limit. The meter will share its data on a secure server/mobile app, from where the user can access the data from anywhere in the world. Moreover, the consumer can declare essential and non-essential port/lights/equipment at any time.
Our aim is to Design and Fabricated Smart IoT-based Energy Meter and Load Controlling System with the following objectives.
We will go through the working, fabrication, and design of the energy meter, then we would design a compact and efficient smart energy meter hardware. After that, we will design the networking session that will transfer the data of the energy meter on the server through / Webpage/ Mobile Application/ Telegram Bot. Then we will connect ESP-32/ESP-8266 modules with an energy meter and relays for controlling the appliances. After that, we would design an algorithm in a way that we could efficiently manage the load. And we would declare the essentials and non-essential appliances. Also, we will set a threshold for maximum power.
In the end, we would collect data on power consumption with and without our proposed system. Then we will compare the results and observe the amount of energy saved.
Advantages of our device:
Through this device we can overcome the load shedding system, inefficient use of electricity and can improve the billing system. And decrease the demand for electricity. Also, there would be no need for load shedding because power consumption would be within limits.

Final Deliverable:
Final deliverable consists of 5 components:
1. IOT based smart energy meter
A compact and cost-effective IoT based smart energy meter that would send and control the power consumption of the server/ android app.
Current Transformer, Potential Transformer, ESP 32 module, display.
2. Smart switches: these switches will be connected to the smart energy meter and on commands of the Energy meter it will turn on and off the appliances.

3. Automation and control: IoT based smart energy meter would intelligently turn on and off the appliances according to the time and power consumption information limit. Which will be monitored and controlled through an Android app.
4. Android App: We will develop an Android app where users can access the control of home appliances and he will be able to monitor as well as control the equipment.
5. Cloud storage: Real-time data will be stored in the cloud for future use.
