Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryIn this project an automatic safety system is bieng designed which can detect and extinguish the fire at the exact position in the meanwhile it can also cut off the electric supply. The prevailing extinguishing systems are not more efficient. Today many buildings and houses are made without any fire detection systems which cause large number of causalities and property losses so by using this proposal many lives can be saved. The fire is detected by image processing using MATLAB with a high resolution digital camera. The motorized shower which can rotate and sprinkles water at exact degree of position detected for fire. As soon as the fire is detected the main supply is cutoff in the affected area as most fires are started due to short circuits and cutting power will remove the initial cause of the fire. The whole system is controlled by Arduino microcontroller.
Project Objectives- To create a fast and eficient fire extinguishing system which does not depend on any external sensors for fire detection.
- To make it easier to implement a fire extinguishing system in houses and biuldings
- To create a system which is more accurate than conventional smoke detectors
- To make a fire extinguisher which does not damage other equipment with water present in the area.
- MATLAB code for fire detection and rules are applied in YCbCr color space.
- Code is used to detect fire in a stored image.
- Properties like bounding box, centroid and median filters are used for accuracy
- High defination camera is used to capture a frame
- The frame taken is stored and then rules are appplied on it
- Hardware support packages are installed to interface arduino with MATLAB
- Motor is tested with MATLAB code.
- Hardware structure is developed to mount the camera and motors.
- Motors are positioned on top of each other to move in x and y axis
- Home position is set for the motors as a reference point.
- As fire is detected angles are calculated and motors are used to point the water canon to the exact position of the fire.
- Better than conventional fire extinguishers which shower in all room when fire is detected which can damage any other equipment.
- This project focuses only the direction in which fire is detected without damaging other machinery or equipments.
- This system is cheap and easy to implement in the biuldings and houses in confined spaces.
- It is fast and efficient as it does not depend on the fire smoke to detect the fire.
