Project Summary

Smart bicycle is Bicycle sharing system. The aim of our project is to implement bicycle sharing system in institutions like large universities. Dock-less bicycle will be installed in the university premises, the dock-less system is the latest generation bike sharing system which allows the bikes to be shared without needing a docking station for the bicycles. and the students or the teachers will register themselves and then be able to use the electric bicycles.  Smart bicycle is divided into two parts, hardware which is the Electric Bicycle and software which is an Android Application. We will design an Electric Bicycle which will be used by the users with the help of an Android Application. Electrical Bicycle will accelerate using Electric motor. Motor will be powered by rechargeable batteries The Application will be used to rent the bicycle in large institutions. We will develop the Android App using the Android Studio platform. Android Studio is the official integrated development environment for Google’s android operating system. Our project will inspire a culture of eco-friendly bikes and bicycles. Our electric bicycle will be environment-friendly and pollution free. Bicycle sharing system will help people to easily commute within institutions. In general Not only do bike-share systems intend to reduce traffic congestion, they also aim to reduce air pollution.

Project Objectives

Electric Bicycle which is bicycle integrated with electric motor which will be used for propulsion. The electric bicycle will use rechargeable batteries to power the motor and use throttle for speed control. GPS interfaced with Android Application for the detection of location of the electric bicycle.

Android Application which will help the user to use the bicycle. Android Application will register the users. Locate the bicycle and tell the status of the bicycle to the user. After identifying the user the Application will be used to start/end the ride. A bill will be generated by the App based on the time the user used the bicycle.

Security system which will only allow registered user to use the bikes. This can be achieved by multiple methods for example using finger print sensors or application QR codes.

Project Implementation Method

Our project consists of two main parts. hardware part which have an electric bicycle and software part which have Android Application.

Electric bicycle: A bicycle will be converted into an electric bicycle by installing an electric motor, rechargeable batteries, controller and throttle. Electric bicycle will be integrated with microcontroller and finger print sensor to only allow the registered user to ignite the bicycle.

Android Application: An android application will be developed using the android studio platform. This app will feature the information of the user, info of their ride, location of the bicycle and fare calculating feature. Our project will be implemented in institution like large universities. Dock-less bicycle will be installed in the university premises, the dock-less system is the latest generation bike sharing system which allows the bikes to be shared without needing a docking station for the bicycles. and the students or the teachers will register themselves and then be able to use the electric bicycles.

Benefits of the Project

Electric Bicycle sharing system will help the students to easily commute through the campuses without walking in the hot sun having to waste energy. They will also be able to get used to the concept of E-bikes. And the trend can improve not only the urban lands but it will also prove beneficial for rural areas.

The culture of electric bicycles is very vital for Pakistan. As the increasing population of Pakistan have negative effects on the environment. Approximately 48 percent people use motorcycles in Pakistan and the numbers are increasing. According to several reports motorcycles emit same amount of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases as of a car. If the fuel burning motorcycles are replaced with electric bicycles than it would reduce air pollution by 40 percent. Electric bicycle are not just environment friendly but also cost efficient. Using solar energy to charge the batteries will provide most efficient form of energy to charge and use our bicycles. Implementing the smart bicycle in a university campus would introduce this new concept and motivated bicycle culture. Smart bicycle can be used commercially to reduce the problems caused by motorbikes. Climate change and global warming are serious issues and we all need to play our part. We might be facing our last stand to save our dying earth, and we can all contribute to this. E-bikes emit lower pollution per km than motorcycles and cars. You can help by using an E-bike instead of a petrol or diesel car. They use energy with an average rate of 100 to 150 watts compared to 15,000 or so for a car. As a result, this can help to improve air quality.

PROJECT DELIVERABLE:-

ELECTRIC BICYCLE:

  • Electric motor of at least 500 Watt 48 VDC.
  • Rechargeable lead acid batteries and motor controller.
  • GPS module (sim 808 or GPS neo 6-m)
  • Arduino micro controller with finger print sensor and Bluetooth module.
  • Speed controlling throttle.

ANDROID APPLICATION:

  • User friendly app layout.
  • User registration.
  • Bicycle tracking.
  • Database having the information of the user.
  • Microcontroller and App interface compatibility.
  • Fare calculation system.
