Project Summary

Design and development of Dryer for Sugar Mill Waste Fuel Briquettes made form sugar mill waste material (like bagasse, ash and press mud) is being carried out. Machine consists of a 4 feet long duct, having 8 inches width and height. The base of the duct is a conveyer belt run by a motor. Duct has 2 Exhaust fans at the top and 2 purpose induction heaters inside it. Heaters are used to maintain temperature while exhausts are responsible for balance in humidity of the duct. PLC is the controller used to control the temperature and humidity so that the material is dried according to the need. This PLC takes temperature and humidity as inputs and controls heaters, exhausts and the speed of motor which runs the conveyer belt.

The input to the machine is the mixed product with waste materials of the industry and some of the chemicals. Dryer is responsible to dry the wet input with the help of heaters. It measures temperature and humidity, and according to the situation, turns on and controls the exhaust and heaters. The input to the machine is placed on the conveyer belt which travels inside the duct in order to get dry. The temperature of the duct is maintained less than 70 degrees as boiling point of water is 100 degrees. Material inside the duct is heated and the water of the material evaporates while the product travels inside the duct and received at the other end of the machine.

Project Objectives

The main objective of this project is to recycle the waste product of Mehran Sugar Mills Ltd. to a non-renewable energy source.

This project aims to be very economical as it is capable of producing 6 billion rupees per day for the industry.

The time is very precious for an industry. This machine is very efficient in terms of time.

Machine is capable of drying about 100 kg mass per hour.

The fully automated system reduces the human effort.

Project Implementation Method

This project is capable of being implemented in a sugar mill after the mixing of the waste with different chemicals and pressing into a particular desired shape. The output from the pressing machine is the input to this project. The material is placed horizontally on the conveyer belt so that most of the material can be dried in the least time. The output of the project can be collected and used for the burning purpose. This is the best replacement of wood for burning and can be used as a fuel for different industries.

Benefits of the Project

We can dry any wet material
Closed loop system
No human effort
Fully automated system
Can use the material anywhere we need energy from combustion or by burning
We can save wood
Material is less expensive than other sources of energy.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Analogue two in one temperature and humidity sensor AQ 3020 is used. It takes 12V DC as input and 4~20mA is its output to PLC.

Analogue PLC DVP20EX2 is used to control the heaters and exhausts proportionally according to the inputs of the PLC coming from the sensors. It runs on 220 VAC.

2 heaters, each 2 ft long purpose induction heater is connected at the output of PLC which is controlled by PLC. 220 VAC is required to run at the frequency of 50/60 Hz. It has a rating of 800W.

2 Exhausts, each of the diameter 6 inches is also connected at the output and controlled by PLC. 220 VAC is required at the 50/60 Hz frequency to run these fans. The current flowing through this fan should not exceed 0.17A.

A 3 phase VFD id required to control the speed of a 3 phase motor at the conveyer belt, as the speed of motor also varies to maintain the required conditions. 1 hp motor is enough for this project as the speed of the motor and load on the motor is very less.

Contactors for heaters and exhausts are also required to limit the excessive current and avoid any harm and as a prevention of any accident
