During the last years, the developments of new media have revolutionized individuals’ behavior tremendously. Particularly mobile devices have developed an ‘always and everywhere online’ mentality. But what comes next? Recent developments and forecasts propose the rise of a new technology that is termed ‘Wearable Augmented Reality Devices”, where smart glasses (such as Microsoft HoloLens or Google Glass) represent prominent examples. These technologies offer much potential for companies and societies.

Augmented Reality Smart Glasses are defined as wearable Augmented Reality (AR) devices that are worn like regular glasses and merge virtual information with physical information in a user’s view field. Smart Glasses are usually worn like glasses, or are devices mounted on regular glasses. Several technologies (e.g., camera, GPS, microphones etc.) capture physical information and augment them with virtual information that can be gathered from the internet and/or stored on the smart glasses memory, primarily accomplished through location-, object, facial, and image-based recognition technologies. This virtual information is then displayed in real-time on a display, which, in brief, is a plastic screen in front of a user’s eye. A user can see both the offline and the virtual and the real world through these.

Now why we selected the augmented reality to navigate the user because it will give a real time experience for user to better understand the real word and the given location. The GPS will tell the user where to go the camera will capture live world and then the information of the objects will be augmented in our display.

What we see that tourism industry now days is in great need of this kind of product that can help tourist to get navigation done from augmented reality in front of their eyes.

The main purpose of this smart glass would be hands-free displaying of information currently available to most smart phone user and allowing for interaction with GPS voice navigation. These glasses will have the combined features of virtual reality and augmented reality. Smart glasses will operate through an Android Application that will be present in our smart phones.  (jaiswal, Dubey and Sharma 2019)

Project Objectives

Our main objective is to use augmented reality to create a smart glass that will provide:

- Providing better and real life environment to people

- It help will help people in multitasking while making sure that they don’t get misguide

- Helping foreigners in better understanding of the new climate

Our second objective is to provide services for phone connectivity

- It will be connected to the phone showing all the notification

- It will show alert when someone calls

Our third objective will be to make navigation easier and better 

- AR navigation will help in better understanding of route

- It will save a lot of time

- All the updates of weather

Project Implementation Method

We are going to use agile methodology in our project.

The six phases of Agile Software development will be used in our project.

In phase 1, we will be doing the requirement gathering, functional nonfunctional requirement of the project.

In phase 2, we will do the designing of the project in terms of hardware and software we will do the hardware design as well as the UI/UX design of the software. ERDs and DFDs will be designed in this phase of the project.

In phase 3, we will start the development of the project the hardware development in terms of raspberry pie assembling and coding.

The application will be developed for Android and iOS.

In phase 4, we will start the testing of the project that whether the requirements are completed and the hardware and software are connecting properly and the testing will include.

Unit test: We will test the individual components of our hardware (I.E raspberry pie, LED, Bluetooth module, frame, batteries, mobile application UI/UX responsive)

Integration Test: We will test the integration of hardware and application.

System Test: We will test the final application and hardware separately.

Acceptance test: We will check the final system and connection of hardware and software properly the whole application and hardware at once.

In phase 5, we will deploy the hardware with the software when the final testing is done and the product is ready to go

In phase 6, we will review our application and hardware whether all the tasks are achieving and we are ready to deliver the product in the market.

Benefits of the Project

The Key benefits of the glasses is that it is a latest technology that will entertain the consumer of any age.

  • The navigation is going to be easy because of augmented reality as the user will see the live world and augmented arrows that will give a better understanding of roads.
  • Information of the objects and places will be shown in the glass that will give a new person better understanding of the new city or country.
  • Phone connectivity will be present so the user does not have to pick up his phone repeatedly and he can see his notification and messages on screen.
  • Weather, time and date will be shown to the glasses screen so it is a better view for the user they have all the information on the screen.
  • Development of cost effective product that will be available for everyone.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our Project is mainly based on Augmented Reality and Image Processing, we are creating a augmented reality smart glass we name it Digi Eye. Our main features of project are Display Navigation like Google Map, Image processing to check details of places and stores/hotels and that details will show on by augmented on screen, will also show time-weather-notifications. We are also planning to control our smart glass by voice commands. Our main market to target are Tourists like Pakistan is now on trending for tourism ,when people came to Pakistan they can purchase this smart glass in cheap rate as compare to other glasses like hololens and others . They will never feel strange or they are in new place by the features of our smart glass.

The hardware we are using in are Raspberry pi (micro controller) , small camera , mini Projector/Led , Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module , small mike and speaker 

The Glasses Consist of Arduino and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module, an OLED and a camera. This is designed with a very special way and the frame is designed with the ongoing fashion and lightweight so that the hardware can hide in it cleanly and the glasses look cool too.

The C+ programming is done in Arduino with the Arduino Desktop application. The Android and IOS application will be made in Visual Studio with React native Framework.

The google play store and Apple app store will host our application the application will be easily available there free. The glasses will be available in the market or all the online shopping solutions available like telemart and daraz.
