dielectric constant measurement using SMRR
Project Area of Specialization Information & Communication TechnologyProject SummaryThe dielectric constant of liquids is essential to find adulteration in food, agriculture, pharmaceutical and petroleum industry. There are always better and newer techniques which are upcoming in the market for finding dielectric constant.
The dielectric analysis will be done using SMRR(stacked multi ring resonator) at microwave frequencies to detect the adulteration.
The SMRR structure consists of a ring resonator with FED patch and parasitic patch. the size of the rings of parasitic patch are enhanced to achieve quality factor greater than 100 and insertion loss less than -2db.
The newly developed structure of SMRR can be utilized for complex permittivity measurement of liquids and paste.
The behaviour of SMRR is studied at frequenc 2.4Ghz.
The 3D models are designed in HFSS( high frequency structure simulator) . In SMRR quality factor increases and losses reduce help us to predict the complex permittivity of material for quality analysis.
Project Objectives-
Objective 1: To enhance the accuracy of the stacked resonator by unique placement of multiple rings on the parasitic patch
-
Objective 2: To utilize SMRR for dielectric measurement of liquids and paste.
-
Objective 3: getting results on MATLAB/Python analyzing the behaviour of liquid on diffferent values and comapring the liquid's behaviour to the pure liquid.
- preparing test setup and resonator
- The resonator will be made by the chemical process using ferric chloride. the FR4 substrate will be used for resonator. after that the reading for reference values will be taken by VNA(vector network analyser).
-
getting readings more than hundred for pure liquid and taking average, that average value will be our reference value that how a pure liquid i.e pure water should behave.
-
same procedure will be applied for contaminated liquids.
-
outputs will be compared with the reference values.
After the completion of the project we will be able to find impurities in liquids such as water by measuring the dielectric constant of liquids being tested.
It will provide us knowledge about how Dielectric resonator antenna works.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe subtrates that will be used for resonators like SMRR, box resonator are FR4, duroid 5880. using these resonators we will be calculating the difference between the quality factor , insertion loss using both resonators.
using both substrates the resonators will give us the better accuracy measurement between them.
