Development of piezoelectric material based car parking sensor
Project Area of Specialization Mechatronics EngineeringProject SummaryParking sensors are becoming more and more common nowadays, mainly to ease the parking of a vehicle for the driver and to avoid accidents. The main purpose of a parking sensor is to detect obstacles such as walls, pedestrians, traffic cones etc. Generally, when the car parking sensor detects some mass, it starts to beep. As the distance to the mass is reduced the number of beeps increases. Parking sensor are also integrated with dashboard display screen to assist driver and autopilot in parking the vehicle. Piezoelectric ultrasonic generator can work both as an actuator for sending ultrasound frequencies and then as a sensor to receive the deflected sound waves from the nearby object. Using this principle, ultrasound vehicle parking sensors are employed in majority of latest model vehicles. The goal of this project is to design and manufacture the piezoelectric material based vehicle parking sensor. The simulation of piezoelectric material will be done in the FEM software. The common material used for the manufacturing of a car parking sensor is a thermoplastic polymer known as Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), which is used due to its injection molding applications and lower production cost.
Project ObjectivesThe main objectives of the project are:
•Prototype
•Mass Production (Mechanical Drawing)
•Injection Molding Dye
•Testing Setup
Project Implementation MethodFirst we will take an already made parking sensor for research and then using that knowledge we will make our own product.
Benefits of the Project- This will make parking more easier, especially in areas where there is less visibility
- Will reduce the amount of imports of parking sensors and will be cheaper as compared to imprted sensor.
- The piezoelectric material will be simulated using FEM software
- The casing and die will be made by using CAD software.
- A prototype will be made for testing of the product.
- Then mass production of the product will be done by using injection molding machine
- A testing standard will be setup to ensure quality of the product.
