Development of ergonomic chairless chair
We are going to make a product that would facilitate the workers that frequently sit or stand in their work. This includes the shopkeepers or labour in a warehouse. We observed the nature of the worker since the chair is only present in one place. We identified that this is an ergonomic problem and selected this problem. The frequent standing in an industry to complete a task has many adverse effects on the worker. It has already been observed that extended standing can cause chronic back pain and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in the lower limbs of the worker. Moreover extended periods of standing can double the risk of developing heart disease due to the increase in the pressure and oxidative stress in the legs. Keeping in view of these effects on the worker as well as the decreased productivity, we are going to make a solution that would enable the worker to function at an efficient rate without putting his/her health at risk.
Workers have to work for long hours in the industry on specific tasks. This leads to fatigue and a significant decrease in productivity. Due to these motions, disorders and physical problems arise in the workers. To tackle this situation this project was considered. It would enable the workers to sit in their desired position with the push of a button and would be able to work throughout the day minimizing the fatigue and keeping them safe. This product would also not interfere with the workspace as it would be directly attached to the worker. Stability would be one of the main concerns of the project. As written in the introduction the main problem at hand is the effect of the prolonged standing or frequent sit/stand motion of the worker. The main emphasis of this project is to ensure a solution so that the worker won’t have to face complications associated with these motions. With a design that would ensure safety, comfort and the chance to increase and maintain a high level of productivity.
We have observed the workspace and studied the different types of motions and tasks that a worker goes through where we found problems in the frequent sit/stand motion of the worker. The first thing that we will do would be to go through the relevant literature already present for the solution of this cause. We would analyse that and try to have a better understanding of the problem and also how to approach it. Then, we would see what kind of solutions contributed in solving this problem the most and incorporating them in our project. The material analysed would be categorised according to the required skill sets such as gathering anthropometric data of the worker in the ergonomic field. The design would also be based on the guidelines of ergonomics. After doing all this, we would build a CAD model of our product. Once the design is complete we would thoroughly analyse it and make sure there are no errors in our design and that is according to standards since the safety of the worker is highly important in this project. While doing this we would also select and test different materials that are going to be applied on the product and we would choose the ones which would ensure the stability of the product while making it durable. safe and most importantly lightweight. Once the design and materials are finalised we would get the product manufactured and perform an ergonomic analysis of the end product to ensure it meets all the requirement
in a semi standing, sitting or whatever position required according to the process with minimal fatigue while providing them with safety and comfort. Extra weight will not be added on the worker. There would also be no hindrance in the posture of the worker. The productivity would be maximised drastically by the worker and would enable him to work for extended periods of time without any health concerns. Moreover since the product would be attached to all the

workers it would create a better working environment since there would be more free space and the fatigue levels would drop.
To deal with the problems stated above we are going to make a product that uses the principles of ergonomics to deal with this problem. The project consists of a product that would be attached to the posterior region of the workers legs and act as an exoskeleton. The product would be made of material that would ensure the safety and comfort of the worker. The product would be portable as the worker would be wearing it at all times. This would also bring an effect in the workspace as lesser equipment such as chairs would be required. This newly freed up space could be used more efficiently. The product would enable to complete tasks at a semi standing position without tiring his leg
