Project Title

Development of chipless spiral resonator RFID tag for IoT

Project Area of Specialization

Internet of Things

Project Summary

The project focuses on the design of chipless radio frequency identification (RFID) tag with a coding capability of minimum 8 bits. The tag would consist of transmitting and receiving antenna to intercept the RFID reader signal. The chipless RFID tag will act as an integral part of internet of things (IoT) and can be used to tag an item. The composition of tag’s resonators would be designed in such a way to reduce the overall size of the tag. Thus, the multi-resonator tag design will first be simulated using microwave studio Computer Simulation Technology (CST) 2018 and then built on suitable substrate.

Project Objectives

To realize a chipless RFID tag with at least 3 multi resonators in small size.

Project Implementation Method

The RFID tag development will be done in the following steps:

  1. Understanding basics of the chipless RFID tags
  2. Learning software tool (CST)
  3. Simulation of different resonators
  4. Simulation of receiving and transmitting antenna
  5. Integrating the simulated antennas with the resonators to form a complete tag.
  6. To fabricate the simulated tag on proper substrate

        7. Measurement

Benefits of the Project

The radio frequency identification (RFID) technology has taken over the other conventional identification technique due to its fast speed and low cost. It has great advantages as compared to conventional identification techniques.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

.Radio frequency identification (RFID) uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects. The tags contain electronically stored information. Passive tags collect energy from a nearby RFID reader's interrogating radio waves. These tags operates from 2.25 GHz to 2.45 GHz.
