Design of Three dimensional printer for wooden products
Project Area of Specialization 3D/4D PrintingProject SummaryThis project is the extraction of electronics and mechanics. It is based on 3-D printing technology.Working on environmentally friendly, innovative and productive project has always been a great source of motivation. There are many 3-D printers developed which use plastic to print objects. As plastic spreads pollution and tons of plastic is supplied to oceans. Plastic waste is not completely recyclable and the process of recycling is also hazardous to environment, plastic is still one of the biggest factors of pollution.

In fact, wooden objects are being produced by many industries using conventional method which waste too much wood and Current 3d printers designed for wooden objects still contain more than 50% plastic So, we have decided to develop a 3-D printer for wooden products as wood is environmentally friendly and easily recyclable and shaped into new objects. It will also help industrialists to manufacture their objects using 3D printers.
The printer will print wooden objects unlike other printers. The creation of 3-D printed objects is achieved using additive processes. To print objects, wooden filament is prepared by using different binding agent with wood.
To design, slice and print, we use multiple software. First the model of object is designed then it is forwarded to a slicing software to print object layer by layer.
Project Objectives- To develop constituent of the 3D printer for wooden based product.
- To design 3-D printer compatible for wooden objects.
- To manufacture plastic replaceable environment friendly wooden products.
There are five different methods to build a 3-D printer.
- Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM)
- Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)
- Direct Write (DW)
- Stereolithography (SLA)
- Material Jetting (MJ)
The best method among those methods is FDM also known as Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF). This process uses the continuous filament of a material mixed with the wooden waste. The filament is fed from the moving nozzle usually have a diameter of between 0.3 mm to 0.1 mm.
besides this multiple software are used to such as fusion 360, cura and pronterface etc to design, slice and print the object respectively
Benefits of the ProjectOne of the most important application of 3-D wood printer is to design things that we use in our daily life such as spoon and toothbrush etc. after using for three to four months toothbrush is replaced with the new one and the old one is thrown away; these are commonly made by plastic hence it results in plastic pollution. If it is replaced with wood, it can minimize the plastic pollution, wooden waste is also easy to recycle unlike plastic.

Besides this, Household objects made of plastics can also be replaced by wood.
Wooden objects are not only Beautiful and decorative but also ecofriendly therefore manufacturers are looking forward to take advantage in every new aspect.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableAt the completion of this project, the following outcomes will be achieved
