In metro cities we can see a huge rush at shopping malls on holidays and weekends. Now a days, people purchase a variety of items, put them in the trolley and, the trolley is pulled. After total purchasing one should approach counter for billing purpose. By using barcode reader, the cashier prepares the bill which is a time-consuming process. This results in long queues at the billing counters. This project presents an idea to develop a system in shopping malls to overcome the above problem. To achieve this all products in the mall should be equipped with RFID tags and all trolleys should be equipped with a RFID reader and  LCD  screen  .When one puts any product in the trolley its code will be detected automatically , the item name and cost will be displayed on the LCD, thereby the cost gets added to the total bill.  If we wish to remove the product from the trolley, you can take away the product and the amount of that specific product gets deducted from total amount and the same information passes to the central billing unit via Zigbee module.  Hence the billing can be done in the trolley itself.

This automatic trolley is controlled by a microcontroller that can follow the user automatically with integrated circuit of ultrasonic and IR sensor. The 12V DC motor was used as the power supplied to move the trolley automatically follow a user in hypermarket or industrial use. In this project a robotic vehicle is fabricated which runs like a regular trolley by carrying tools from place to another.

Project Objectives

•To develop a versatile trolley as a community serving vehicle that can carry items and move from one point to another point automatically following the customer using ultrasonic and IR sensor.

•To design automated billing system in which the billing information can be directly sent to manager via Zigbee module.

Project Implementation Method

RFID reader and Zigbee are interfaced with Arduino and are placed in the trolley. Items are attached with RFID tags. When user puts items in the trolley their price is detected and added to bill. After the shopping is finished the total bill is calculated and sent to the manager through Zigbee module. IR receiver module is interfaced with A micro controller to enable trolley to flow the customer automatically, which receives data from the IR transmitter attached with the customer.

Benefits of the Project

However, this new technology which is designed for shopping or carrying heavy thing has never used before. it follows the customer in shopping malls and also the total bill is calculated by the trolley which is sent to the manager. customer pays the bill rather than wasting time at the counter. Time and energy of the customer is saved.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Arduino uno is used 

IR sensor Arduino Module is interfaced with Arduino 

Xbee series 2 antenna is used for creating network

LCD is used to show the total bill
