Project Area of Specialization Augmented and Virtual RealityProject SummaryThe world of gaming has faced revolutions with the games evolving from 2D to 3D due to innovation in virtual reality. Yet, the game developers are looking forward for additional attraction in games for which the haptics technology is heavily under consideration. With haptics being introduced to the gaming world, entire scenario will change as it would no only be limited to 3D visualizations but the effects and movements of the real world can also be felt in the virtual world of games. The project is therefore looking forward to develop a game which will provide a sense of touch to the end users making them feel as if they are in real world. Haptics will be introduced to a self-developed game with help of creating game graphics followed by the connections of haptic devices. With the final proto-type, the gamers will be able to play in multi-player mode and enjoy the feel of haptics along with their co-players.
Project ObjectivesThe idea of this project is to reach the next level of virtual reality where the user will feel the effects and motions of the game as they might face in real world. The goal of our project is to provide a captivating experience in order to give player a more realistic feel by increasing players’ presence in the game’s virtual world. The main focus is to interface the haptic device with programmed coding of a game and let the user enjoy the feel according to the functioning of game. Our project will play a major role in boosting up the local haptic technology market. This provides a great tool for key players to formulate strategies for the products offered by their associated platforms or companies. With any further type of advancement in the game will help the game makers and game selling companies to expand their businesses in virtual, digital and potential markets.
Project Implementation MethodProject implementation has two main tasks which will result in the initial outcome of the project
- Gaming graphics needs to be designed for which an open source library called OpenGL will be used. A 2D game will be designed to set up the floor ready for haptics to be introduced.
- After game development, haptics technology will be introduced in the game with the help of another open source library called ‘Chai3D’. With this the connections of haptics will be made resulting in the initial proto-type.
With the completion of the major tasks, some minor tasks will be followed including multi-player mode enabling for gamers to connect over server and enjoy the experience with friends. Furthermore, meeting the tasks with in the deadlines will allow us to improve the quality and level of our game. Thus, with all the major and minor tasks being accomplished, the final proto-type will be ready.
Benefits of the ProjectThe project has been selected after figuring out its several benefits. Firstly, the project will attract gamers from all over the world due to its haptic feeling. Secondly, the more the gamers are attracted, the greater will be the market demand hence, improving the gaming industry. Thirdly, the project with a massive improvement for the gaming industry will play its role for the economic conditions of the country. Finally, apart from direct benefits, the project will also open up the haptics market for the fields of simulations, security forces, medical and educational fields.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe final prototype will be a combination of OpenGL, Chai3d and server networking. It will provide a virtual environment to the gamers with the development of gaming graphics where the gamers will witness a scenario with different levels of tasks to be completed. Innovation will be introduced in the game with the help of Chai3d which will allow the haptic device to connect with the game and with a strong feed-back system, it will provide a real-world sensation the players while being in a virtual environment. The haptics will mark the revolution of the gaming industry with its feel of touch which will be experienced by the end-users. With these targets being achieved, the project looks forward to attract the maximum number of gamers globally for which the project will build a private server to enable multi-player gaming to allow friends to enjoy the experience together.
