Design of Indoor Drone Station
Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryIn recent past years, many new technologies emerged, which helped mankind to explore the universe and make his life more comfortable. Drones are playing an important role in performing different tasks. These include photography, surveillance, deliveries and much more.
These machines have many control methods like smartphone-controlled, radio-controlled, etc. But for flying these machines someone has to be the pilot. A pilot is a person who has the controller in hand. As drones fly outdoors so the pilot has to be outside in order to fly it better.
The object of our project is to make an indoor drone control station. Which will be able to control the drone from inside the room with an FPV view.
• Pilot will be setting inside home or office.
• To develop an easy controlling method.
• Surveillance
Project Implementation MethodThe main goal of our project is to develop an indoor flying station for drones in which the pilot will be sitting in his office or room. And he will be able to fly the drone from there, while using FPV.
The indoor system will consist of a control bench which will have the control buttons and joysticks. And a Screen for FPV. FPV will help the pilot to experience cockpit view. The indoor station will be connected to an outdoor TX and antenna module which will communicate with the drone.
In many applications, today user interaction is moving away from mouse and pens and is becoming pervasive and much more physical and tangible. New emerging interaction technologies allow developing and experimenting with new interaction methods on the long way to providing intuitive human computer interaction.
• Indoor station will help pilots to get better focus on flying.
• It will eliminate weather effects on pilot also. Because it will not affect the pilot whether it’s hot or cold outside.
• A camera will provide live view of drone to assist pilot while flying. Other cameras can be used for surveillance and security purposes.
Our project is based on a UAV, which is a quadcopter in our case. Its flying range is upto 200 meters. A camera will be mounted on the quadcopter and will transmit video signals to the indoor station using 5.8GHz transmitter. In indoor station there will be one transmitter for controlling drone and one receiver and screen to display the video.
An out door unit will communicate commad signals between indoor station and quadcopter. Which can be mounted anyehere outside the indoor station.
This hardware and software details of this project are as follow.
1. A functional quadcopter.
2. Rx/Tx modules
3. Rechargeable battery pack for powering.
4. Flight controller
5. FPV RX TX
6. Indoor Station
7. Arduino IDE
