Design and Testing of a Smart Control for Room Heating System
Project Area of Specialization Mechatronics EngineeringProject SummaryThe aim of the project is to mainly focus on the ease of controlling a heating system along with the proper utilization of energy that is being used by the heating system. Mainly this system will be focusing on the technology in which you can remotely control your room's temperature from anywhere at any time. Using a smart thermostat, you can control heating and hot water remotely. You can select control over different rooms and control the heating intensity of the system.
Project Objectives- Designing of the mechanical system for room heating.
- Designing of the electronics system for smart control.
- Fabrication of the prototype system.
- Interfacing of mechanical and smart control system.
- Testing of complete and finalized prototype system.
- Literature review: This is the first and basic part of our project execution methodology in which we analyse and gather basic research, by studying research papers as well as general information that is already done related to our project.
- Designing and testing of mechanical system: We will be completing our designing part of the mechanical system by making sure that the design is well prepared and most efficient in every way for the best heating output. Further, we will be going towards the testing of the mechanical system.
- Designing and testing of control system: We will be completing our designing part of the control system by making sure that the components are most efficient in every way for the best heating output. Further, we will be going towards the testing of the control system.
- Selection of components: The most important part is the selection of components that would be the best for our use and to control the system. We would be choosing the components very carefully so that the system is working to its full potential.
- Interfacing of smart control with mechanical system: After this, we would be interfacing both the mechanical system and the control system with each other since we have the hybrid system in our project.
- Fabrication of System: The final fabrication of the whole system would be done where the prototype would be ready for final experimentation and testing.
- Experimentation & testing: We will be testing our final model that will qualify the working of all objectives defined.
- Boost efficiency, generating high energy savings since the system is smart.
- Combinable with all modern heating technologies and renewable energies.
- We can use the system at domestic level.
- When combined with other systems in order to control the building climate, the whole system may be an HVAC (Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system.
- Reversing the method can also give us method for room cooling system.
PIC16F877A microcontroller:
- Operates upto 20MHz frequency.
- Operating voltage is between 4.2 to 5.5V.
- Microcontroller has separate capture and comprae modules, serial ports, parallel ports along with five I/O ports.
Water heating Device:
- Maximum Output: 155,000 lb/hr
- Design pressure: 750 psi
- Operating pressure: 650 psi
Room Prototype:
- Dimensions: 2ft x 2ft x 2ft
- Wooden system
- No insulation
Pump:
- Includes two valves from inlet to outlet.
- compact and easy to install.
LCD Display and Mobile App:
- LCD displays reference temperature, desired temperature, water flow rate.
- Mobile app can control the desired temperature, can control the intensity level for heat emission and the heat emission rate.
Control System:
- The overall control system will be able to smartly control the room heating system that includes control of temperature as well as heating intensity of the system using relays for fast and normal heating.
