Automatic Toll tax Collection is a system which helps in the collection of toll taxes in a simple easy and time saving manner. It helps reducing heavy traffic congestion caused in cities by implementing an Automatic gate which is controlled electronically. A car moves towards the booth at any type of roads, the system detects the oncoming vehicle through a camera or a pressure sensor. The system identifies the vehicle type and an amount is deducted accordingly. The objective is to use raspberry pi as a controller for the system. Raspberry pi is a relatively inexpensive controller which is used for research purposes and demonstration of the technology. This whole system can monitor all incoming vehicles and records the vehicle information as well. The system can be used to detect theft by coordinating with the authorities responsible for traffic safety. The system helps reduce traffic congestion at toll plazas and help in reducing fuel consumptions for vehicles by reducing their idling times. The ATP is a improved, faster and better solution to the standard toll booths currently in service.
INTRODUCTION
The modern intelligent transportation system is the financial source of development of any country’s economy. The amount of traffic system is increasing day by day due to the increasing in the number of vehicles. In a result, there are numerous problem which are creating hindrances in people daily life such as congestion, accident, air pollution and many other. For this reason, increasing transportation is an immediate impact on productivity of transporting resources at production side and transport completed goads to market is one of the important key factors in economic competition for the improvement in transportation system. The automatic toll collection system is introduced. ATP is the technology that allows the automatic electronic collection of toll cost and ATP system is capable of eliminating congestion in toll plaza, especially during those season when the traffic is seems to be higher them its normal, and is also capable of determining whether the vehicle is registered or not and then informing the management center about the process violation, debits and participating account.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
The main idea of integrating an automated toll booth is to solve the traffic issues that occur at the toll plaza. The ATP can help in increasing the smooth flow of traffic coming in during heavy traffic rush hours and increase the overall efficiency of the system by decreasing time required for each vehicle passing through it.
Project ObjectivesRESEARCH OBJECTIVES
This research aims and objectives to achieve:
- Shorten the line queues at toll booths through faster service rate, also avoiding traffic jams.
- Easier to keep all the records and Managing toll collection data.
- The centralized system also helps during Audit times.
- Elimination of human error on Toll booth collecting part.
- Lowered toll collection cost.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
- Step # 1: Firstly, a camera module installed which capture the image of vehicle and recognition of number plate by using image processing.
- Step # 2: After image processing the analog data will be converted into digital by using ADC converter.
- Step # 3: Then, digital signal send to the Raspberry Pi and Raspberry Pi compare that data with given RTO database which contain all data about vehicles.
- Step # 4: A database link with customer prepaid account which used to easily deduce the amount with respect to vehicles.
- Step # 5: After deduction of amount the raspberry pi send a message to stepper motor to open the toll gate.
- Step # 6: In last, when toll gate is open the customer also received a message about tax payment which is possible when raspberry Pi interface with GSM module.

- This project can help reduce the time required per vehicle by faster service through automation.
- Vehicle theft can be detected by the system through the use of RTO database.
- By the implementation of Automation Technique, it can reduce the overall operation and maintenance cost.

- The Final Project will help reduce the environmental impacts towards global warming by reducing the time spent by vehicles idling at the toll booth during rush hour.
- The work of Security Agencies will get easier as vehicle theft will have more areas to help in monitoring.
- Implementation of this project will also help reduce the overall cost of management for government agencies.
- This work when completed, will help other students who belong in the same field in their research and to further improve upon the technology.
