Design and Manufacturing of Composite VAWT Generator System
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThe world will of course use a variety of technologies to meet future energy demand, but these findings leave no doubt that the potential for wind power to replace fossil fuels and is able to take a leading role in stabilizing climate.
In our thesis we are presenting a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine on a small-scale which will be producing a power output of about 200W with the help of Wind Energy. It will be enough for fulfilling the small energy demands like lighting up the lights and other home appliances.
For the manufacturing of the blades and generator, which are the parts of the turbine, we will make the materials composite i.e. Fiberglass with combination of Styrofoam. This composition has high strength and will be very light weight at the end as well. It is non-corrosive and has thermal and electrical insulation properties. After the Designing and Manufacturing of the system it will be tested for both the efficiency as well as the strength i.e. Tensile strength, Shear strength and BendingĀ strength.
Project ObjectivesTo achieve the power output of 200W using three blades in VAWT.
- In order to achieve this goal:-
- Connect the three blades to the hub.
- Hub attached with three plates of magnets and coils.
- The coil plate is fixed. Bears flux cut producing electricity.
- The three phase system is created with coil containing rotor.

- VAWT can be easily installed as compared to HAWT.
- VAWT can function in extreme weather conditions with variable winds.
- Maintenance cost of VAWT is low because most of its components are at the near ground level.
- VAWT does not need to be pointed into the wind direction because of its construction design.
- The Electricity will be produced with zero fuel cost.
- The cost of the project will be natural wind energy, which is unlimited.
- A whole country can light up using this technology.
The following are the basic overview details of the project;
- There will be a stand which will hold our whole system.
- On that stand, first will come the generator system which will consist of Magnetic Rotors sandwiching the Coil Stator.
- The Aerofoils (Flanges) will be connected with the magnetic rotors with the help or rods.
When the wind will pass through Aerofoils, it will rotate them, the aerofoils will rotate the magnetic rotors and in between those rotors will be coil stator. The electricity will be produced when the magnetic rotors will rotate around the stator made of coils.
