Design And Implementation of Shunt Active Power Filter For Power Quality Improvement.
The consideration of power quality is an important measure in power distribution system. Due to the advancement and development of Semiconductor Devices and non-linear loads (Like: Switching Mode Power Supplies (SMPS), Arc Furnaces, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), heavy Rectifiers for Electrolytic Refining), high level of non-linearity occurs distorting the power quality. To tackle this problem we are designing a Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF). The method includes removing harmonics in the power line by supplying the anti-harmonic current generated by the Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) to the line, that is in the opposite in phase but having same magnitude. As per this interference power line current become pure sinusoidal. This filter are considered able to any load that generate the harmonic.
This design proposes a Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) to minimize the power quality impact present in power lines due to non-linearity of the load. Non-Linear loads produces significant harmonics (undesired frequency components) into power line. The proposed system compensates the distortion problems efficiently and automatically. The proposed system will be tested and validated on the Non-Linear loads using simulation on MATLAB/Simulink. Simulated results affirms that the Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) can maintain high performance for Non-Linear loads.
Hysteresis Current Control (HCC) technique is an instantaneous feedback current control method of PWM, where the actual current continually tracks the command current (reference current) within a pre-defined Hysteresis band (HB). Hysteresis band (HB) is the possible boundary of the compensating current(Ic). This current deviates between upper and lower hysteresis limits. From this operating, the Compensating Current(Ic) can deviate inside the hysteresis band following the command/reference current Compensating Current(Ic). The main advantage of hysteresis current control method is excellent dynamic response, easy implementation and low cost. In this method the actual output current generated by inverter is compared with reference current generated using instantaneous reactive power theory. Hysteresis Current Control (HCC) will generate pulses in such a manner that inverter output current will follow the reference current.
The primary deliverable is the prototype device itself. Furthermore, the final project report and hardware will detail the final design and the specifications of the Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF). The Final Deliverable will include a scientific data, simulation results, mathematical equations, that explains how the Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) works as well as how effective it is in terms of the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) reduction for the tested loads. This Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) will be the tested to determine if Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) reduction met the required specifications. The prototype will ideally be made to the same specifications as the final product is intended, but may merely be a proof of concept prototype. And if required, a presentation will give an overview of the system and the results of the Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF).
