Design and implementation of prepaid water monitoring system with analysis of nutrients using IOT
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryA water metering system functions to regulate and limit the total amount of water available for use and consumption during a given period. It enables a company to receive generic information of the waters flow and the elements that it contains in real time such a TDS and pH through identification. Design of a water metering system is also essential in setting a reduction target for water use. We will be following the methodology of a prepaid system to identify the excessive wastage of water by monitoring flow. With shrinking reserves of clean water resources worldwide, it is becoming cumbersome to cater for this resource to masses and in the coming years on a consistent basis. Using our smart water meter, water resources can be managed efficiently and an optimum use could save water for the future generations. Sensors will provide for real time monitoring of hydraulic data, automated control and alarming from Cloud platform in case of event
Project ObjectivesCurrently, local water company still implements post-paid payment system that is time and human resources inefficient. We have therefore proposed the implementation of internet of things (IoT) in designing prepaid water meter card for real time water usage monitoring. The card could also be used to directly purchase water quota online via website. The proposed water meter used an air vent valve system combined with the water flow sensor to measure the amount of user's water usage. Result will show that the proposed system can work properly with the measurements obtained from the difference between water flows read in conventional water meter with the measured value in our proposed water meter. The purchased quota will be directly deducted based on the amount of measured water usage. This process will be done in a real time environment and the data will be automatically stored in server. When user is running out of quota, solenoid valve embedded in the proposed water meter system will be automatically closed such that user will have no access to water source
Project Implementation MethodOur proposed method implements water flow sensor to calculate water usage
instead of the traditional one. Users using a prepaid system detect and verify the customer’s ID number. Arduino Nano will check for their ID number andwater quota on the server though wemos. If the user has quota then the solenoid valve will open. Water will be directed to the solenoid valve and detected by the water flow sensor. The measured data will then be sent to Arduino Nano to extract real time information and obtain the volumetric analysis of the water therefore reducing user’ water quota. Solenoid valves will automatically be closed and water supply is stopped when user’ quota is empty, also it must also show on the website that the users credit is empty. In the website, users must monitor their remaining quota, water consumption, and also quota top up such that they do not need to go to a certain shop, company etc. Therefore in definition, our Prepaid Water Control Circuit System for Water Metering Project Report for water metering controls the mechanism that only allows usage of water only when there is water i.e. a certain required amount of prepaid units in the control circuit system and stops the flow of water once the units are finished.
Benefits of the ProjectThis project offers a lot of advantages. It reduces the metering costs to a great extent. The municipal corporation will be able to compute its income as the prepaid units are employed. Furthermore there will be no complaints from the consumers concerning overcharge and over dues.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableIn first phase we identify the design and come up with the most efficient mechanism to cater to our project. We identified water sensor as the most efficient means possible and due to security incompetence rejected MCU Node. as we are creating a prepaid water metering system, we control and using subsequent quota, give access to our water system, as soon as the person nears expiration or complete usage of his/her quota, we inform them through a website. displaying results through arduino nano, a water-flow sensor calibration, a valve to remove air for precise measurement of water flow and receiving the data reading the quality of water including specifications such as TDS and pH.
Therefore to sum up, for the first eight weeks we will work on software along with hardware as depicts the nature of our project. And for then working on report writing and at last we will give a final and a presentable look to our project and present to our external and internal advisors.
