Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject SummaryThe main scope of work for our FYP project is designing and fabricating a portable thermoelectric refrigerator that can easily store vaccines for the purpose of transportation and storage. The aim of the project is to eradicate the problem of storage of vaccines which can be widely seen in our Pakistan. We have inadequate equipment that can be used to transport or even store vaccine. Furthermore, it can be seen that portable vaccine storage are few. The purpose is to design a system that can easily transport vaccine and can be completely portable. The temperature ranges targeted will be 6 to 10 degree Celsius. The selection of the heat sink for the optimum heat dissipation will be done. The cooling box will be designed to ensure the temperature remains constant through a considerable amount of time. The design of cooling box will be adequate enough to store most of the vaccines readily available.
Project ObjectivesThe traditional cooling systems, that include the vapor compression systems, have some specific drawbacks. They are not environment friendly, as they release hazardous gas. The purpose of using thermoelectric module for the designing of the storage system is to device a system that can be portable as well as eco-friendly.
Project Implementation MethodWe will be using different simulating softwares to come up with the most ideal configuration for our system. We will be using thermoelectric modules which are readily available in the market, along with making an insulator that can easily cater for the requirement. Since we will be targeting a low temperature, we will be analysing the insulator in various softwares so we can achieve our requirements. After the analysis is done, we will be moving onto the fabrication of our design.
Benefits of the ProjectThe main advantage of using the thermoelectric module as the basis of our project is the eco-friendly properties of the module, as well as it can be integrated to be made completely portable. These two problems have clouded the storage and transportation of vaccines for centuries. By this, we can eradicate the issue of releasing hazardous gases while cooling.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableWe will be achieving a temperature range of 6 to 10 degree Celsius, by removing 40 Watt from the cooled space. The Volume of our cooling box will be 640000 cubic millimeters.
