Design and fabrication of the organic rankine cycle
Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject SummaryThe design process required for the development of a small scale ORC test bed as well as the required component selection considerations. All system components were selected, fabricated and assembled ready for the system to be charged and tested
The electricity is produced in ORC consisting following components: evaporator, pump, storage tank, condenser, turbine. Selection of working fluid was found to be a constraining factor in the design. A refrigerant is known as R134A was selected due to its desirable performance. In this project we can flow the refrigerant in the evaporator and change the phase of refrigerant due the help of hot water and Rotate the turbine and produced the electricity. and waste refrigerant again move into condenser and change the phase. It is close cycle project.
Project ObjectivesThe solution's objectives are as under:
1) To determine the organic working fluid characteristic.
2) To carry out thermodynamic analysis of ORC system
3) To study the effective use of solar energy as heating source in the ORC.
4) To find out the comparative results of different organic fluids.
Project Implementation MethodThe project implementation will be based on following flow:
The methodology to achieve objectives is summarized in the following 5 stages
;
Stage 1: Selection of organic working fluid
Stage 2: Selection of the solar energy
Stage 3: Thermodynamic analysis of ORC.
Stage 4: Testing and result compilation
Stage 5: Analysis of Data.
Stage 6: Numerical Study.
Benefits of the Projectthe benefits of an Organic Rankine cycle
- power production from low to medium temperature heat sources.
- This technology is use for low-grade heat
- Lower maintenance cost
- Lower turbine inlet temperature
- It is suitable for environment
The system is fully based on the power generation.
- It has used a small turbine that is identical in design to a steam turbine but which uses a low boiling point organic fluid
- Its working fluid instead of water and steam
- The turbine is packaged into a close cycle system with a condenser and heat exchanger
