DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF SELF CLIMBING WHEELCHAIR
The project aims to bring forward a means to climb
stairs easily for older and disabled people. Rapidly increasing accidents and resulting injuries are testament to the requirement of a vehicle which can both climb stairs as well as move on plain surfaces.The wheelchair is powered by a system which enables it to have smooth motion on flat surfaces and has the capability of climbing stairs and traversing obstacles. It shall have a level of automation, as modes could be selected for either application. Only two motors for locomotion are necessary.The additional cost of a stair climbing wheelchair as proposed here is 20% of a conventional economic wheelchair.

We made a CAD model of our proposed design to verify its working. After the completion of CAD model, we started fabrication of our design. Now our project is in fabrication phase and soon our working model would be ready.
Wheelchairs provide increased mobility and independence for the user and their carer, allowing them to take part in everyday activities, despite having reduced mobility. As well as helping you carry out daily tasks with ease, a wheelchair offers many social and mental health benefits.
We used iron bars to make the frame of our wheelchair .We also introduced a tilting mechanism for the balancing of seat of of the wheelchair while moving over the stairs .We used actuater for balancing the wheelchair. There is a built-in motor in the actuator. We used two DC motors on both the rare wheels of the wheelchair. All the four wheels of the wheelchair are delta wheels. Power is provided to the motors using DC batteries.
