So our motivation is to design and test the archimedes screw turbine and see how it replenishes the power of low head sites in rural areas of Pakistan.
We first selected a low head site and then calculated the important parameters for our archimedes screw turbine. After that we designed different turbine models having different angle of blades and shapes on SOLID WORKS and after that we did analysis of our different turbine models on ANSYS and Mechanical APDL. From our analysis we determined the most optimized model of out turbine .
Then we build a prototype of our turbine and after doing actual experiments we again did some modifications in our turbine design and finally build our final actual model.
Project ObjectivesThe following are the objectives of this study:
• To generate energy using hydropower.
• To design and refine the turbine blade profile.
• CFD Analysis was used to optimise the design by changing the size, shape, and spacing of the blades for a particular input condition.
• 3D printing will be used to fabricate the turbine.
• To apply this technology in an accessible manner.
• To generate inexpensive and low-cost power.
• To reduce pollution by reducing the usage of fossil fuels in electricity generation.

- Off grid energy can saved in batteries and can be used in disaster or emergency situations
- As it is a hydro turbine it will provide energy as long as the water flows at the turbine site.
- The turbine will be easily scalable according to the required site
- Almost new technology like archimedes screw turbine will be implemented in rural areas of Pakistan.
- The Totel length of Archimedes Screw turbine will be between 1.25 to 1.5 meters
- Its diameter would be between 6 to 8 inches
- The number of turbines blades will be 2.
- It will installed in a frame of about 1.75 metres in length
- It will be having a 1:1.5 gear box.
- The turbine will generate energy using a 12 volt dynamo generator.
