Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject SummaryHybrid cars are nowadays on roads, saving environment from harmful gases in the populated areas. However, in third world countries majority of people use bikes (motor cycles). These bikes pollute the atmosphere with exhaust gases. Hybridizing these bikes can protect us from harmful atmosphere. The idea of this project is that the bikes shall run on batteries at low speeds i.e. when these are in populated areas. As soon as a bike gains speed, which means that it is outside of the populated area, it will shift from batteries to engine and the batteries shall be recharged by the engine.
Project Objectives- Selection of a bike and its design evaluation for proposed hybridization
- Selection of motor for running the bike at low speeds
- Selection of batteries for powering the motor
- Modification of the bike for fitment of motor and batteries
- Computerization and synchronization of motor and engine for shifting at selected speed limits
- Obtaining the drawings of existing motor cycle chassis
- Drawing the proposed modifications in the chassis
- Stress analysis of the proposed chassis for different road conditions and loadings
- Amendment / fabrication of the chassis
- Fitment of selected motor, batteries, engine, transmission and other accessories
- Electronic / computerized synchronization of the power shifting from motor to engine and vice versa at selected speed limits
- Testing and evaluation of the performance
- Preventing the atmospheric pollution of the populated areas due to the exhaust gases of the bikes
- Minimizing the noise pollutions due to bikes engines
- Petrol will be consumed at economical speed range by the engine resulting in fuel economy
- Maintenance cost will be lowered as the engine will not be used at low speeds; its parts will be sufficiently lubricated and cooled at high speeds resulting in lesser breakdowns
- Engine life will be increased
A hybrid bike fitted with motor and batteries for powering at low speeds and engine for powering at high speeds as well as recharging the batteries. A computerized changeover system shall be fitted for shifting from motor to engine and vice versa depending on the speed limits as well as the charging condition of the batteries
