Food Waste is one of the major problems encountered in daily life. Food Waste is a problem not only because it is difficult to dispose food waste properly but also because of
its adverse effects on environment, society and economy. Pre-Consumer and Post-consumer Food waste coming from House-hold, Hotels, Restaurants, and various food points has following adverse effects;
- Food waste rotting in land fills generate methane Gas, which has an impact 25 times higher on climate change than carbon dioxide.
- The Government spend a lot of capital to manage food waste such as transportation cost , labour cost, vermin control.
- Food waste causes Unhygienic environment, odor, wet waste and spillages.
- The environmental implications of food waste to climate change is catastrophic.
Engineering Solution to this problem includes Sustainable Food Waste Management, Food Waste Recycling, and Utilization of Food waste. We will achieve these possible solutions by designing
“food waste recycling machine”.
Our Project aims to make food waste disposable and recycle it by converting it into feed-stock for in-vessel composting, anaerobic digestion and bio-fuels. “Food Waste Recycling Machine” Will reduce volume of food waste by 80 percent and will provide the suitable particle size and water content to use it as feed-stock.
Benefits to society and common man includes;

- Lighter Carrying Loads.
- Less/no Odor.
- Fewer/no Spillages.
- Promote Recycling.
- Promoting Circular economy model.

Project Objectives:
The aim of this project is to design and fabricate food waste re-cycling machine with following objectives:
- To manage food waste by reducing its volume up to 80%.
- To recycle the food waste by preparing a homogenized feedstock for in-vessel composting, anaerobic digestion and bio-fuels.
- To take step towards green technology which is based on circular economic model(sustainability).
- To avoid negative impacts food waste on society, environment and economy.
- Literature review.
- Conduction of Survey to define scope of the project.
- Conceptual Design.
- CAD Modeling.
- Validation Of Design Using finite element Analysis Software(ABQUS/ANSYS).
- Fabrication.
- Various Tests Analysis.

Technical Details of Final DeliverableConceptual Desgin
•Reducing the particle size in mixing and cutting chamber.
•De watering the reduced food waste in centrifugal action chamber.
•These processes deliver both the consistent particle size and control the water content necessary for further composting.
•The dry waste is collected in collection chamber.

the macerator consists of crushing chamber which will comprise of blades and shaft that will bring the food waste into fine particles.
the dewaterer chamber will make the use of centrifugal action that wiil ensure that water has been separated from crushed food. The water is then drained and feedstock is collected in bin.
