Design and Fabrication of Electromechanical Power Attachment Wheelchair
Being one of the most common modern day assistive device, a wheelchair provides mobility access to a specific group of individuals who carve for mobility, for example a person with spinal cord injuries muscular dystrophy etc. One billion people or roughly 15% of the world population is suffering from significant disability. These people are at the center stage of experiencing discriminations and rejections at various platforms they may engage to such as education, employment that directly results in poor health outcomes, lower employment and high poverty rates. The project aims to deliver a power attachment wheelchair that would provide roughly three times the speed a regular electric wheel chair provides. This core objective would provide the people with disability to travel with more comfort and would be a definite time saving device. The power attachment can be manually attached and detached from the wheelchair in order to provide the user the access to either use the device as a regular wheelchair and when necessary, as a combined power attachment wheelchair which would give a three time speed increase.
The objective of this project is to provide an electromechanical power attachment wheelchair that would provide three times the speed which is equivalent to adequate speed of a motorcycle. This speed enhancing feature would provide the users with roughly more travel speed than a regular electric wheelchair and hence would be certain time saving assistive device. With this feature, the users would also be able to move through the pathways easily and effectively as the power attachment unit consists of a handle bar which results in easy maneuvering. This power attachment unit would be easily attachable and detachable with the wheelchair through easily coupling. This coupling feature enables the users to use the device either as a wheelchair alone or as a combined power attachment wheelchair unit to avail increased speed.
Project development will start with theoretical studies and calcualtions followed by prototyping and development which will be followed as follows:
The desired electromechanical power attachment wheelchair would provide the following benefits and perks:
