Automated bottle filling machine is designed and fabricated for filling and capping process of various coloured bottles. To ensure exact and same amount of fluid automated system is preferred over the manual in order to reduce cost, in accuracies in volume of liquids. This mechanism will accelerates the filling process and there by reducing complexities in system design.

Project Objectives

•To perform a filling water process into different types of bottles.

•To perform a capping process on the bottles.

•Implementation of IR & color sensors to detect position & color of bottles respectively.

•To build a prototype which is light, low cost, user friendly and with transparent structure.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The built automatic bottle filling machine performs well and has been able to fill different types of bottles depending upon their color. The built machine has been finished and is ready to start filling a bottle. The machine is easy to operate.

Electronic Components Used

Microcontroller used

STM32f103C8 (Arm Cortex) is used to interface with electronic devices

Geared motors

•Three geared motors are used

•Two 400 rpm geared motors are used for straight Conveyors

•One 400 rpm geared motor is used for cap tightening            

•12 volt DC is voltage ratings for all geared motors

Stepper motor

Water pumps

•Three water pumps are used, one for each tank

•12 volt DC

•10 L/min

Servo motors

•Three servo motors are used

•One for pipe positioning

•One for pulling cap tighter up & down

•One for push mechanism

•The operating voltage for these motors ranges between 4.8 to 6V with a maximum rotation of roughly 180 degrees.

IR Sensors

•Two IR sensors are used

•One for detecting bottle

•One for detecting & adjusting round conveyor position

•Detection distance: 2 ~ 30cm

•Working voltage: 3 - 5V DC

Color sensor

•Used to detect color of bottles

•TCS3200/TCS230

•2.7V to 5V power

•Digital TTL interface

•Communicates directly to Microcontroller

Design dimensions

•Straight conveyors length = 25 inches

•Straight conveyor width = 2.7 inches

•Round conveyor diameter = 20 inches

•Round conveyor teeth's diameter = 2.6 inches

•Total length = 70 inches

•Three tanks with the capacity of 3 liters each

•Angle between the two cavities of round conveyor is 45 degrees

Bottle diameter is 2.5 inches ( 0.5 liter )

Bottle Height is 8 inches (0.5 liter)
