Design and Evaluation of Micro-Electromechanical Compliant Structures
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject Summary- Compliant Mechanisms are single-piece flexible structures that deliver the desired motion by undergoing elastic deformation as opposed to jointed rigid body motions of conventional mechanisms. Compliance in design leads to jointless, no-assembly, monolithic electro-mechanical devices and is particularly suited for applications with small range of motions. Micro electro-mechnical systems (MEMS) are micro level actuators, sensors and devices whose size varies between 1 and 300 micrometers. This project focuses on designing the fabrication ready non-linear compliant mechanisms for MEMS devices.
- To design and mathematically model non-linear compliant structures for micro-gyroscopes, micro-accelerometers and micro-grippers.
- To perform FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS and ELECTRO-MECHANICAL ANALYSIS using Ansys Software.
- To produce fabrication ready design.
- Fabrication ready design for micro-chip fabrication.
- Improvement of accelerometers and gyroscopes for strategic organizations of Pakistan.
