Project Title

Design and Development of UAV Video Link MODEM with Relay Transmission Capabilities

Project Area of Specialization Information & Communication TechnologyProject Summary

This project aims to develop a MODEM which will accept digital signals (basic sensor data or video signals) using one camera. The received data is converted into binary form, multiplexed, converted into frames, and then transmitted using a non- coherent scheme called DPSK modulation. Both the wired and wireless communication will be possible. The UHF band will be used for transmission which means both Digital and RF circuitry will be involved, and its circuit design and packaging will require conformance to thermal and electromagnetic compliance.

On the receiver side, MODEM will receive the data, de-multiplex it, convert it back to original formats and make it available to intended users, allowing them to configure the number of inputs and type of binary coding used for input.

Atleast two different frequencies will be used for transmission and reception so that it allows a relay type device to be used in between the transmitter and receiver MODEM as a communication relay.

These MODEMs find applications in telemetry systems including those used in Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) UAVs.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method Benefits of the Project

Assured efficient communication is a key performance parameter of BVLOS UAVs. Data and Video MODEM are main components of the communication link. The project aims to design an indigenous MODEM which presently is imported. As a product it will have utility in Strategic Organizations, Armed Forces & other BVLOS Drone users
