Project Summary

The electrical power subsystem is one of the most critical subsystems to ensure smooth delivery of power to any spacecraft. A typical EPS is composed of solar panels, power conditioning, power storage and power distribution units. This project is based on the design and development of the power conditioning and distribution unit of Cubesat. The design must provide a reliable power source by satisfying the requirements of different subsystems with power from the solar cells, regulating the voltage and protecting the Cubesat subsystems from the overcurrent associated with the device failure.

Project Objectives

  •  Investigate constraints in EPS for Nano spacecraft.
  •  Design of PCDU for a CubeSat standard Nano spacecraft.
  •  Software Implementation (simulations & coding).
  • Optimum design of PCDU.

Project Implementation Method

The project consists of the analysis and design of PCDU for a 3U CubeSat in the following phases.

1) Preliminary design of PCDU for a 3U CubeSat

2) Simulation analysis of designed PCDU

3) Software Implementation

  • Implementing DC-DC converter control and interface with microcontroller
  •  Implementation of MPPT or DET scheme for DC-DC converter
  • Reading current, voltage and temperature sensor

4) PCB designing using Altium Designer

5) Hardware Implementation
