In this era of modernization, we've all been exposed to many smart things, now information is available to our electronic gadgets. The normal objects are turning into smart day-by-day that lead to the development of the country and abroad. Mirrors play an important role in our life, we have many mirrors around, and turning them into smart makes our life easier and time saving. IoT is a global network infrastructure where the physical objects are embedded together have self-configuring and self-adapting capacity. Our project depicts the design and development of IoT based smart mirror that represents an elegant interface for glancing information that can display weather, date & time, reports, temperature, weekly schedule and daily news for a futuristic and modern lifestyle. Raspberry pi that is equipped with high technology and innovative applications stays at the back scene of two way mirror and controls the data displayed on the mirror while the LCD display that is placed beneath the two way mirror can serve various applications. The user can interact with the mirror. The main aim of this project is to design a smart mirror that receives an online news and display it using Internet of Things (IoT) circuitry.

Project Objectives

The main objective of this project was to design and develop a device that acted as a “Smart Mirror” providing relevant information on the display such as:

  • News feeds
  • Weather Forcasting
  • Date & Time 
  • To-do-list
  • Health Excerscse

To enhance user experience of accessing and interacting with information.

To to overcome the wastage of time, one can easily access information.

To provide the information at one glance.

To hier the Electronic Personal Assistant that does various tasks like updating calendar, setting up reminders, setting to-do list/weekly schedule, updating date and time, displaying weather, daily, notifications, birthday, jokes, compliments, life.

Project Implementation Method

The project implementation method includes both hardware & software. The project mainly based on hardware setup.

Hardware components which we used to design and develop an IoT based Smart Mirror.

First, we setup the software of Raspberry Pi & code to install modules then we connect all hardware parts

Software required for IoT based Smart Mirror:

Smart mirror has a small size, simple operation, high degree of easy and quick interaction, personalized user interface, and other advantages.

We have designed a futuristic smart mirror that is an interacting device that helps you check updates easily.

  • At Home for grooming as well as accessing Information.
  • Home Decor.

This IoT based Smart mirror is developed by Raspberry Pi 4, broadens the features of a mirror into a Smart appliance. Raspberry Pi is connected to the network via WIFI, and the weather information, news, time, date, and other information are obtained by the API interface, which helps an individual to lead an easier and smart life. It displays lots of information based on the user’s choice and interest that are chosen from the menu so that the relevant information is displayed on the display, menu also helps the user to hide the information when not needed, with just One-click.. It also assists the user with news updates. It is suitable for families, and has broad application prospects

The mirror display is provided by a flat LED display monitor embedded with raspberry pi which displays all the necessary information which are useful for the user.
