Electro EncephaloGram (EEG) signals can be used to support paralyzed person, by carefully acquiring and processing EEG signals can allow paralysis patient move their arm, limbs or other body parts voluntarily. Our aim is to use EEG signals to control paralyzed body parts by measuring their level of attention and meditation, and implementing that To turn on/off something through eye blink or to filter out the different level of brain signal from raw data.
Project ObjectivesOur main aim is to design customized headsets for EEG headset (Electrodes and other circuitry). Then we will use our own headsets to acquire data from the human brain and compare the results with the data of other headsets like Neurosky Mindwave. Then we will also use the EEG signals acquired from our designed headset for different applications like controlling electrical appliances, prosthetic arm, or other research purposes.
- The main objective is to design a system that supports paralysis patients by processing EEG signals.
- The secondary objective is to control external devices. Application of EEG based control is beneficial as it permits machines and peoples to flawlessly work together towards a common goal.
- Design and Development of Neurosky mindwave headset based attention and Meditation level indicator.
- We will design headsets of different sizes.
- The electrical waves will be sensed by the brain wave sensor (EEG headset) and it will convert the data into packets and transmit through Bluetooth medium.
- Controller (small IC) will receive the brain wave raw data and it will extract and process the signal
- The control commands will be transmitted to the motors or other actuators to process and perform the actions. One typical applications is robotic arm consist of 5 servo motors used to move the fingers of the arms.
- The microcontroller or OpenBCI board will help to control the servo motors.
- For another application the microcontroller or OpenBCI board will help to switch the status (ON or OFF) of Fan or Bulb.
- The topmost advantage of this project is that we will be able to help paralyzed patients through customized EEG headsets, because it will increase the efficiency and accuracy.
- More advance benefits would involve the prediction of epilepsy episodes by acquiring several patient data and analyzing with respect to age, gender, locality and patient history parameters etc.
- The other objective to control home appliances, wheelchair, TV remote, etc by EEG signals with slight modification in project design.
Following are the Technical details of the Final Deliverables:
- We will design four different sizes of EEG headsets.
- The headsets will contain the hardware of OpenBCI (Daisy Biosensing board and sensors).
- These headsets will be easily wearable for the patients of different ages.
- The acquired EEG signals from these headsets will be used for controlling prosthetic hand. Five servo motors will be used in prosthetic hand.
- Fan or Bulb will be controlled by processing these signals and sending the control signals to relay switch.
