basis. For the efficient energy management the distribution system has been improved day by
day but the energy measurement and billing system does not improving in the present day which
leads to lot of power theft cases. Most of the developing countries are moving into smart meters equipped with
prepayment facility to measure electricity in order to reduce the financial losses faced by utilities
due to consumer reluctance to make bill payments on time. Prepaid smart meters enable
consumers to effectively manage their electricity usage. This work deals with designing and
implementing a digital prepaid energy meter which is affordable for domestic consumers. This
meter also shows the peak hours to the user. Also, it gives the overvoltage protection to the
consumer. And it also sends information seal breaking of meter to the utilities.
Our project is to Design and Development of an Efficient Prepaid Smart Energy meters for the improvement in billing system and theft in power sector.Lots of different feature are included

our objective is to Design a efficient prepaid Energy meter for the improvement in billing sector, as lots of printing and labour is spending for the collection of bills.lots of error are occured so this is the best solution for the fast and acurate tool for billing. lots of benifits are available for both utilities and consumer.

The primary focus is to design a prepaid digital energy meter using GSM. For the Designing of energy meter, we use the microcontroller, energy IC, Current sensor and
also the voltage sensor. Also design a power supply for microcontroller of 5V. RTC is used to counts the seconds, minutes, hours, date, months and years.
The task is to design and develop a prepaid smart energy meter that performs the following
tasks:
- Computing and displaying active and reactive power in real time
- Displaying peak hours and their intimation to the users
- Calculating amount to be paid and displaying it on user’s demand
- Over voltage protection to consumer
The method used to make the project prepaid is the principle of serial communication in collaboration with embedded system. The project has an electric meter which will work
with a GSM modem which is the latest technology used for communication between modem and embedded systems. The modem will send a message when desired to the
electricity officials through the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) inserted inside the modem.
