The face mask has become a key tool in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic but they are also proving a major new source of pollution. Used masks are seen littering streets, countryside, and waterways across the world.

Now, we start-up believes it has a solution to turning the potentially hazardous waste into useful products. We said to ourselves: it’s not possible, it’s not inevitable that these masks will end up either in nature or incinerated. We can recycle them; we can do something with this material and we can renew their value.

First, the masks are collected, then they are ground down into small pieces and subjected to ultraviolet light to ensure they are completely decontaminated before the recycling process begins. Then the masks could be turned into a vast array of different objects, but for the moment they will be turned into plastic products.
 

Project Objectives

Face masks (or other face coverings that cover your mouth and nose) are one of the most effective measures that help reduce spreading of the virus. The face covering helps to avoid spreading of the virus by stopping the respiratory droplets which contain viral particles. But face mask is a major source of pollution that cannot be neglectable. Our object is used face mask & other Recyclable items converted to some plastic material that can be used in our daily life. Our first aim and objective are to clean the environment and to make greener life. We are using waste material like face mask and other polypropylene plastics to make different useable products.

There are many benefits of clean environment such as:

1. Clean air

2. Less hazards

3. Prevents illness and sickness

4. Better Mental Health

5. Reduce global warming

Our second objective are to recycle the waste like face mask and polypropylene plastics because there are many benefits of recycling the waste such as:
1. Recycling reduces waste sent to landfills and incinerators.

2. Recycling prevents pollution.

3. Recycling conserves natural resources

The face mask & other Recyclable items makes our environment polluted and it is the cause of waste. So, we are implementing the method to reduce the waste and making our environment clean and making some useful things that we can use in our daily life.

Project Implementation Method

The face mask & other Recyclable items makes our environment polluted and it is the cause of waste. So, we are using crush face masks and other Polypropylene to reduce the waste and making our environment clean and making some useful things from it that we can use in our daily life.

First, we collected mask and other Polypropylene good from the bin which were placed in hospitals parks and malls.  After having enough quantity Second thing is we put all those masks in the UV light Chamber for 5 mint to dis-infect them. Then we remove metallic strip from mask to make the process go smooth. Then we are passed that to shredder machine to crush the material into small pieces. Then the crushed material goes into the Injection Molding Machine. Then it will fall into the shape of Bike Mudflaps or sheet which is our Final Product.

Benefits of the Project

Recycling Face mask & other PPE equipment is not normally done in different countries. But now it’s time to recycle it to fight with climate change and Pollution. In our Final Year Project (FYP), and we are making bikes Mudflaps by using waste surgical mask and other Polypropylene. With increasing reports on inappropriate disposal of masks and other types of plastics, it is urgent to recognize this potential environmental threat and prevent it from becoming the next plastic problem.

           The face mask & other Recyclable items recycling machine will help to clean our environment and the waste which we can see on our road and streets We can make many useful things by this recycled waste.  Just like in this project we are using this waste to make a bike mudflap or other industrial material after recycling which also low cost and durable.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final product of waste face mask with other Polyproplene waste is flexible mud flaps which is low in cost as compare to mudflap available in the market it is durable and environment friendly. we can also recycle it again if got broken
