Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryIn recent times, the quality dairy and meat products have become an essential part of our lives. But unfortunately, in Pakistan this demand is not meeting the expectation due to lack of care and additionally cattle dying due to diseases. Considering these problems, smart dairy is a concept that can satisfy the increasing demand of dairy and meat products by reducing the environmental factors and by decreasing the resources. This IoT based smart dairy will provide accurate and efficient monitoring of every cattle animal with the help of sensor nodes. These sensor nodes will then be sending the data to the IoT platform via base station so that live monitoring can be observed at any time. This system provides with the vast application which can be further used for the smart monitoring of zoo animals as well. This IoT based smart dairy system is the smart solution for decreasing the factors directly effecting the animal health and ensuring monitoring with minimal resources.
Project ObjectivesThe objectives which we are tend to achieve from this project are as following:

Obtain a specific suitable technique that will allow the Sensor and Wireless network system to work in provided environment.

Acquire a user-friendly interface for Controlling the system.

Monitor the live working of a Farm.

To provide the owner, an optimum path to overview the complete working of Farm.

Facilitate the owner and animals according to their needs.
This project is based on the implementation of WSN(Wireless sensor network) and IoT(Internet of things). There are total of 5 modules and following are the details of each module.
- Location Monitoring:
In location monitoring, we have implemented a GPS module which will provide the live position of every cattle around the smart dairy in a defined parameter.
- Body Area Sensors:
Body Area sensors consists of the heartbeat and temperature sensors which provides the live monitoring and vaccination time alert for the doctor to help with the constant monitoring of animal health.
- Environmental sensors:
In environmental sensors, we have implemented several sensors which include CO2, temperature, humidity and air quality sensors which are implemented as each independent WSN to monitor the environmental parameters.
- Food and Water:
It consists of level measuring sensors which when goes down from a defined level, automatically inserts to the defined level.
- Base Station and IoT ThingSpeak:
All of the data is integrated and send to the base station from where all of the above mentioned parameters are monitored.The base station is then responsible for sending the data to the IoT platform ThingSpeak from where the owner would easily be able to check the report of his smart dairy farm.

The main purpose or the factors which will be enhanced from the implementation of this project are:
- There will be significant increase in the milk production and meat quality will go better.
- From the cleanliness and constant monitoring the common animal diseases will be greatly reduced.
- Almost no man labour will be required for the monitoring.
- Due to automation, it will greatly reduce the cost for maintanance and other factors.
- User friendly interface will provide with easy observation for monitoring.
- vast applications which can further be classified for zoo animals etc.
- Cow Collar:
This is the collar which is to be tied upon the neck of each animal. It has the following components.
- Arduino UNO: A microcontroller
- SPO2 Pulse oximeter Heart Rate Sensor Module MAX30100: Heartbeat sensor
- NEO-6m-gps-module: GPS module
- mlx90614-gy-90614-module: Temperature sensor
- esp8266: Wi-Fi Module
These above mentioned equipment is embedded with the Arduino UNO microcontroller and are responsible for monitoring the heart rate, temperature and location of each cattle present at the farm. A defined range will be set for the cattle and if the temperature or heartbeat rises, a message will be generated via gsm module to the owner and veterinarian. Also a reminder is set for the vaccination of animal which will automatically be send to the veterinarian. The sensor data of heartbeat, temperature and location will be send to the base station from where it can be observed anytime and from there, it is then send to IoT platform ThingSpeak which can be observed anytime by the owner of the farm.

- Environmental monitoring system:
The environmental sensors provide the real time data of environment of indoor farms. They ensure the healthy environment for the farm. Environment monitoring is very important for the good heath of hard. Bad air quality and more humidity can affect the growth of the hard and it cause the more separation of disease.
The environmental monitoring system contain the four sensor nodes.
- Temperature mearing sensor node: DHT11
- Humidity measuring sensor node: DHT11
- Air quality measuring sensor node: MQ-135
- CO2 measuring sensor node: MG811
All of the above mentioned sensors are embedded with a single Arduino UNO microcontroller. These are responsible for monitoring the environmental factors of indoor farms. When any of the air quality factors or temperature rises, an alarm is generated to ensure that adequate measures are taken to make these factors normal.
- Water and Feeding:
Water is an important nutrient for all animals. For the welfare and profitability of the animals, it is important that cows should have sufficient quality water. Milk contains almost 87% water. The water requirements are closely related to milk production.
The system alerts the timing of feeding and vaccination through SMS alerts to owner and doctor, respectively.
Beside this we will implement the water level sensor which ensure the availability of water for 24 hours. Decreasing the level of water trigger the sensor to start motor which increase the level of water.
