Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person's thoughts, behaviors, feelings and sense of wellbeing. People with depressed mood can feel sad, empty, hopeless, helpless, guilty, worthless, irritable, ashamed or restless. In a report published, highlights that 50 million people in Pakistan suffer from common mental disorders such as stress and depression. The report states that 44% of entire Pakistani population is affected by depression, affecting 57.5% for the female population. This study is to examine changes of functional connectivity in patients with depressive disorder using synchronous brain activity.

The Phase Synchronization Index (PSI) of the functional network was investigated. Patients with depression showed a decreased number of significant electrode pairs in delta phase synchronization, and an increased number of significant electrode pairs in theta, alpha and beta phase synchronization, compared with controls.

Electroencephalogram is one neuroimaging technique that has been shown to differentiate patients with major depressive disorder and none-depressed healthy volunteers at the group level but its diagnostic potential for detecting differences at the individual level has yet to be realized. Quantitative EEGs produce complex data sets derived from digitally analyzed electrical activity at different frequency bands, at multiple electrode locations, and under different vigilance (eyes open vs. closed) states, resulting in potential feature patterns which may be diagnostically useful.

Considering that depression is characterized as a mental disease with typical deficits in emotional processing, investigated how emotions can influence cognition. We will measure the frequency stabilization of the different EEG oscillations and distinguishes disordered signals (higher entropy) from ordered ones and transmit disorder information to the concern doctor for medication.
