Project Area of Specialization Computer ScienceProject SummaryThe Project revolves around the concept of updating and utilizing databases to aid in securing a building or a specific area. Facial recognition and biometrics are to be fed into a database along with parameters like history of violence. A person carrying a weapon or with a history of unlawful conduct would trigger the metal detector and be recognized by the system which would raise alarms in the control center and alert the authorities.
Project ObjectivesA three-layered security system that aims at detecting concealed weapons and maintaining a criminal database that aids the relevant authorities in preventing crime. The aim is to reduce attack occurrences by alerting the appropriate authorities while an unauthorized entrance into an enclosed area occurs. The idea is to provide fool-proof security with real-time crime detection. Our intended audiences are security agencies, schools, mall and hospitals.
Project Implementation MethodAfter the brainstorming phase, work was started on two layers of the project simultaneously to use the limited time smartly and to be able to meet the University deadlines. A software layer covers the main source code that contains the facial recognition and stimulus and system response functions. It also contains the database feeding and search and retrieval functions. It also covers the code that drives a microcontroller being used in the Hardware layer. For the purposes of presenting a demo without too much monetary strains, prototyping using Arduino has been implemented for the Hardware layer. An Arduino Mega controls the trench mechanism and processes the inputs from the proximity sensors and the data coming in from the metal detector.
Benefits of the ProjectThe benefit of having such a system in place is having the capability of staging preemptive strikes on potential threats and therefore increase the chances of neutralizing dangerous elements before they can cause harm.
