Project Summary

Renewable energy provides a way of generating clean energy. Micro-grid is defined as the combination of distributed generation, electric energy storage and loads. Micro-grids thus offer a power system to integrate power generated from renewable sources and provide features like increased reliability, flexibility, cost effective and efficient energy. The parallel operation of small energy sources delivering energy by using inverters as an interface gives modularity to the system and provides extra reliability and redundancy. In this project parallel inverters are integrated by reducing circulating currents and regulating frequency and voltages. It is achieved by using droop control method, the proposed system will integrate parallel sources. The validity of the design will be verified through computer simulation tools and hardware prototype.

Benefits of the Project

  • Integration of small scale renewable energy resources will let us independent of high budget, place and extra water storages.
  • The transmission and distribution cost and losses will be decreased tremendously. 
  • Sharing of electricity will efficiently utilize energy resources.
  • Droop control provide safe and control use of resources. 
  • The design is indigenous and low cost.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

A digital processor based droop controlled based inverter will be delivered at the end of the project. The rating of the individual prototype inverter will be 300 W. The design will be scalable and can be upgraded as per desire. The digital control unit will consist of FPGA processor.
