Project Summary

CNG is mainly used for powering vehicles but it is also used for household and industrial purpose as an alternative for LPG gas and other fossil fuels due to is non-polluting nature. Some people have low sense of smell, may or may not respond on low concentration of gas leakage. In such a case, gas leakage security systems become an essential and help to protect from gas leakage accidents. A number of research papers have been published on gas leakage security system. Embedded system for Hazardous gas detection and Alerting has been proposed where the alarm will be activated immediately, if the gas concentration exceeds normal level. There have been many accidents that have been caused due to leakage of gas and have caused loss of life and property. Gas leakage detection is not only important but stopping leakage is equally essential. Our goal is to provide a cost effective and highly accurate system, which not only detect gas leakage but also alert (Beep) and prevent from causing any severe damage, further it will also be monitor through a smart phone.

Project Objectives

Gas leakage is a major problem with industrial sector, residential premises and gas powered vehicles like CNG (compressed natural gas) buses, cars etc. This Problem has been the sole reason for many accidents in the past. One of the preventive methods to stop accident associated with the gas leakage is to install gas leakage detection kit at vulnerable places. The aim of this paper is to design and implement automatic gas accident prevention system that can automatically detect and stop gas leakage in vulnerable premises.

Project Implementation Method

As we had earlier seen in the literature survey that there are no automatic device to prevent household disaster caused by LPG and CNG so our device is the solution that problem. Our device consists of three main phases I. Detection System II. Prevention System III. Alerting System 3.1.1 SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS Android Application: Software Requirement contains an android app used to display the gas value on run time and also to alert the user if any gas leakage is detected. 3.1.2 HARDWARE REQUIREMENT I. NodeMCU II. Fan III. Relay IV. MQ-5 Sensor V. LCD Display VI. Wires VII. Battery

Benefits of the Project

The device accurately detected the simulated gas leakages and a message was generated through the Wi-Fi network. The message was transmitted to the server to arm the buzzer for the purpose of user alert. On the same time the exhaust fans were automatically activated to suck out the leaked gas from the enclosed space, to prevent potential ignition and fire hazards. This smart device offers several safety benefits that are vital for early gas leakage detection, and response towards preventing LPG leakage. With small modifications the system can also be used for household purposes to prevent house gas leakages.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We use NodeMCU as control system in our project which connects with a gas sensor which detects the methane gas presence in the air, if it detect gas leakage it alert by indicating ringing the buzzer installed in the hardware and a fan is installed to exhaust the pressure of gas leakage.
