Due to increase in carbon emission day by day human life is being affected, so the world is shifting to electric vehicles. In this regard the major car manufacturing companies are focusing on producing more and more EVs due to increase in the demand of EVs in the market. With the increase in the production of EVs, there is huge market of EV charging stations because when the world will be fully shifted on EVs the existing Vehicles will be replaced by EVs completely in near future so the Gas stations will also be replaced by the charging stations.

Our objective is to design and develop low cost the EV charging station to impalement level 2 charging that will have more efficiency and much cheaper than the existing charging stations available today in the market.

The existing level 2 charging stations in the market has the efficiency of 89.4% but our goal is to bring improvement and to increase in the efficiency of EV level 2 charging stations up to 93%.

Project Objectives

The objective of the project is to design and develop a low cost EV level 2 charging station that has more efficiency as compared to those level 2 charging stations available in the market. The charging station can be used to charge the different kinds of EVs having the support of level 2 charging.

The EV level 2 charging station will have a hybrid feature that has two modes one is DC input, at the day time the solar panels will be used to charge EVs. Second is the AC input at night the power will be taken from the grid station to charge the EVs.

In first phase we have already made a design of EV charging station using the simulation software “MultiSim”. In second phase we will work on the physical level to implement the idea to make the prototype of the EV charging station. In third phase we will test the EV station to check its functionality and to fix the errors.

The benefit of that it will provide a low cost EV level 2 charging station that has the improved efficiency as compared to existing level 2 EV charging stations that is one half the price of what is available in the international market hence saving the import bill of the country.

Most importantly it will promote the EVs as EVs are the best way to replace the existing gas vehicles that causes the emission of carbon that affects the human life tangibly.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The project will deliver an EV level 2 charging station that has improved efficiency that will be used by EVs available in the market.

The final deliverable will be an integrated EV level 2 charging station that will have efficiency of 93% that will provide wide range of charging speeds, all the way up to 19.2 kilo watts (kW), or about 70 miles of range per hour of charging.

The EV level 2 charging station will have all the protection mechanism like over charge protection, over temperature protection and short circuit protection to save the EV charging station and the EV itself from any harm.
