Target drones are systems intended for defense role and as well as training role. This project is divided according to the major systems concerning the target drone under study. These include, the design and structres group, the aerodynamics and catapult design group and the controls and parachute recovery system group. Our work focuses on the CFD analysis for the designed drone so as to cater the aerodynamics concerning the design. On completion of the aerodynamics and design portion, we will progress towards designing the catapult launcher corresponding to the target drone. The other groups are simultaneously working on their assigned systems to achieve the final product.
The main objective of our project is to do the complete aerodynamic analysis of designed drone by using different softwares. After the aerodynamic analysis and design completion of drone, our objective is to design and fabricate a catapult launcher for our drone.
The aerodynamic part of our projrct gives us complete analysis of surrounding domain of drone. It includes lift, drag, speed, stability derivatives and all aerodynamic terms of drone. Atability derivatives will be further implimented by the controls group for controler design which gives proper maneuverability to drone. The catapult design and fabrication will provide the proper launching for drone and helps the drone to gain required speed.
Later on this high speed target drone will be used for military training and it will help us for better ground and air defence systems.
This project is of great benefit for our defence system. As our pilots and ground defence forces are being trained on low speed target drones. In this era of great technology, we need to update our forces and armour. As our pilots can still perform this much better with these limited resources and training then they can improve it much by proper training and we can strenghthen our defence system.
Our final deliverable includes a drone that can fly on a mach of 0.9. The drones we have yet in our defence system have maximum mach of 0.4. Our major concern is the high speed and great maneuverability. Our drone will be launched by using rocket boosters to attain the required thrust and lift. It also includes the complete fabrication of a catapult according to the size and weight of drone.
