This project offers an android based reservation system where users can view various parking areas and select the space to view whether space is available or not. In every organization, there is a different parking system that produces problems for customers. So the aim of this application is to provide a dynamic solution using the latest technique i.e. QR code for the users' ease. This system runs on a mobile phone platform and provides a visual display of parking slots available to the user so that the user can book or reserve a space. The user needs to scan the QR Code while parking the vehicle. The action of the user is then reflected in the database. This system reduces fuel and time consumption as well as the user’s frustration. 

Project Objectives

This project would be mainly focused on assisting the driver to easily find vacant parking spaces in a specific parking region with the help of QR code based Smart Parking System and to reduce traffic and energy consumption and air pollution. This project has come up with an optimal solution that gives liberty to the people to book their own parking space as per their need and specification of the vehicle. The purposed project is to make people more convenient to park their vehicle.

Project Implementation Method

   

  1. Initially, parking spaces with their longitude and latitude is registered on the map server to make the system more dynamic by using the internet. 
  2. Each parking space is uniquely identified by the QR Code. The QR code will be generated using fields like space id, latitude, and longitude of the space. The QR code is printed and affixed at the corresponding parking spaces. 
  3. A database that shows all the mapped parking spaces with their attributes is created. A web server Application Programming Interface, API is established and published over the internet.
  4. The user can then access the API using application. The user willing to use the application must be connected to the internet via his phone. The user will have to download the application and install the application on his Android smartphone.
  5. User has to register himself to the system by giving details like name, password, email-id, phone number. The user can then log in to the system whenever they need to reserve a parking space or use the available space.

Benefits of the Project

  1. Users find the best spot available, saving time, resources and effort. The parking lot fills up efficiently and space can be utilized properly by commercial and corporate entities.
  2. Traffic flow increases as fewer cars are required to drive around in search of an open parking space. 
  3. Searching for parking burns around one million barrels of oil a day. An optimal parking solution will significantly decrease driving time, thus lowering the number of daily vehicle emissions and ultimately reducing the global environmental footprint.
  4. Many new revenue streams are possible with this system as well as it integrates the entire user experience into a unified action. Driver’s payment, spot identification, location search, and time notifications all seamlessly become part of the destination arrival process.
  5. More automation and less manual activity save on labor cost and resource exhaustion.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The system has four main input components: user, smartphone, mapping service, and service provider. The first input is from the user; they have to set their priorities in order for the results to be filtered based on their needs. The user will only make his/her time selection further into the reservation process. The next input is based on the user’s interest; whether they want to enter the destination address or if they are looking for a nearby parking spot, the smartphone itself can detect any available spots. The smartphones’ GPS chip will be the next input, only if the user did not specify an address. Also when the user is looking for parking, the system will capture the date and time of the search as an input, which will help find vacant spots from different parking service providers.
