Project Title

Brain Computer Interface Based Home Automation

Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject Summary

A brain-computer interface (BCI) is a communication system that allows the use of brain activity to control computers or other external devices.  It can, by bypassing the peripheral nervous system, provide a means of communication for people suffering from severe motor disabilities. BCI based home automation provides the platform for the disabled persons who can’t use their arms (person facing motor disabilities). The project consists of both phases i.e. software as well as hardware. Hardware consists of the sensor that detect our brain waves, and in software phase we would perform processing upon the waves attained from the brain. Signals gained from the sensor are in the form of analog signals which are converted into the digital signals and upon which certain action is being performed. In the case of our project we would take the analog signals from the brain and convert it into the digital signals upon which we would operate the home appliance like switching the bulb on or off etc.

We would be automating the home appliances by using brain signals (getting commands directly from brain signals)

Project Objectives

There are the following objectives of our project:

1) Implementing brain computer interface in home automation.

2) Providing an ease of access for disabled persons

3) Increasing the effeciency of home automation

4) Enhancement of home automation

Project Implementation Method

Project implementation/methodology comprises of following stages:

1) Signal Acquisition

2) Signal Preprocessing

3) Signal Preprocessing

4) Feature extraction

5) Machine learningData mining

6) Mapping on aurdino

7) Switching onoff appliances

Benefits of the Project

There are the following benefits of our project:

1) It would enhance the home automation process.

2) More effective

3) More effecient

4) Cost effective

5) Ease of access for disabled persons

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Project would be consisting of software and hardware, hardware would be comprising of BCI kit (headset) which would be easily wearable and that would be getting the signals from the brain of a person wearing it, furthermore it would be applying algorithms on that signals to judge what the user is actually thinking and upon this it would perform the action that would be either switching off or switching on any home appliance.
